On his way to Mecca, Mansa Musa I made a stop in Cario with one account stating that Mansa Musa and his entourage spent so much goldin the cities markets that the gold dinar was inflated by 20% and that it took over 12-years for the flooded gold market to return to normal.

Musa funded and built the Sankara Madrassa, famously known as Timbuktu, towards the end of his reign, which became one of the ancient world's most important learning centers. The Sankara Madrassa Is said to have over 700,000 ancient manuscripts still today.
