The monument of Sir John Talbot of Lacock describes him as born of
the most noble family of the Duke of Shrewsbury, which is somewhat
confusing. Sir John was descended from John, second Earl of
Shrewsbury, who died in 1460, and his monument was erected when
the twelfth earl and first duke was living. Sir John died in 1713, and his son and heir predeceased him, as mentioned on the monument.
