Contraindications

Chamomile (German)

Matricaria recutita

Occasionally animals are sensitive to plants from this family, but this is rare and generally occurs following skin contact.  Skin sensitivity should be checked prior to skin applications.  Chamomile may also induce uterine contractions and foetal growth problems so should be avoided during pregnancy.

Dandelion

Taraxacum officinale

Care should be taken in treating animals with bile duct problems, gall bladder inflammation or any type of intestinal obstruction as dandelion may exacerbate the problem in these cases.

Devil’s Claw

Harpagophytum procumbens

Should not be used in animals that are diabetic as it may affect blood sugar levels.  It should also be avoided in pregnancy as it may stimulate uterine contractions, or if the animal is being treated for cardiac disorders as it may interfere with conventional treatments.

Echinacea
