Cat Tale 41: Eating with Style

Speaking more in general about the consumption of food, most of us do not overeat. Instead, we usually eat many times during a 24-hour period, and in small quantities.

As you can see, we are quite refined in that sense, and thus are known for our stylish or even finicky eating habits. It’s all about self-control. Maybe some of you humans would benefit from imitating our habits in this area of life.

Us cats generally select our food based on its temperature (not too hot or not too cold), its smell (enticing, but not overly strong), and its texture (having both the proper appearance and feel to it).

We are rather suspicious of new foods that we haven’t eaten before and that have flavors that we are not accustomed to. Thus, we often hesitate to give them a try for fear of their leaving us with a disgusting taste in our mouths or a bad sensation in our stomachs afterward. There’s a very simple rule here: if it isn’t yummy for the tummy, then move on and find something else to satisfy your hunger.

And please remember that needing to eat and loving to eat are two very different perspectives. We already talked about that, right? Whenever possible, we try to make our meals enjoyable as well as nutritious, and we hope you do the same.

Finally, without a doubt, we will avoid any food that has provided us with unpleasant experiences in the past. We have a great memory regarding past smells and tastes that made us say, “Yuck!” You do too, don’t you? So, let’s stay away from that stuff.

I’ve seen some humans eat a big plate of “yuck” just because they say it’s healthy. Come on! With all the options out there, you could surely find something else, couldn’t you? How about healthy and truly delicious, okay? Pay a little more attention to us cats and you’ll soon be on the road to eating with style, and enjoying it too!
