Minus 1 star for inconsistency - a broken staff made whole, Kyla flees a banquet without stopping, yet later has her pack and weapons. Don't you have advance readers? Otherwise enjoyable. Female warriors can be fascinating - so long as the author is a woman. I wouldn't take a man's word for anything a woman thinks or feels. A lot of groundwork is laid, but only one thread is resolved. Guess I'll have to read book 2.

Well as interesting as stories are here and as much as I like to read. It does take the wind out of your sails if you only had to read one instalment of a book
