Chapter 32

Some Jeffee Tidbits from College

I'll throw in a few little tidbits as I remember them. No big deal but interesting things I still remember.  One time I took this girl Carol to one of the football games and in one of the rare instances, it was raining pretty hard but we sat out there behind the goalposts.  Us folks from the Newman Center liked to sit behind the goalposts and watch the game.  Caroline and I were getting quite wet.  As they like to tell the tourists, yes it is hot in Arizona but it is dry heat which means very low humidity levels so the heat doesn't feel as bad.  They were right that night because I believe it stopped raining sometime around the middle of the first quarter of the football game and by halftime both my date Carol and I were completely dry.

I remember the Newman Center had a very famous set Stations of the Cross in the church.  One very renowned artist was an artist by the name of Ted DeGrazia. Of course the Newman Center couldn't afford his pictures but he had donated about 14 or 15 little paintings of Stations of the Cross in his own beautiful painting style.  I recommend you look for a book or an art show with Ted DeGrazia's paintings; they are very interesting and unique.

One thing I do remember about Ted was that he did not get along well with the IRS. At some point the IRS wanted Ted to pay a bunch of taxes on his paintings saying they were worth this many thousands and thousands of dollars.  Ted actually burned a bunch of his paintings so would not have to pay taxes on the paintings a sad loss to us all and again something you can thank the US government for with their stupid tax laws.

I can't think of anything else about college right now I'm sure I will later but the beauty of dictating like this is I can always come back later and add something in this space so I w go back to the other section of my book and my employment with the city of Tucson which will be in volume 2.  I'll be back on this side of the book later on so bye-bye for now from my college days at the University of Arizona which were great experience.
