Simply put a Nominalization is created when you convert a verb or process into a
noun. We see these everywhere in our daily use of language, and you can easily
spot them by looking for words that contain ‘ion’ such as Relationship, Translation or Medication. Relationship is the process of relating. Translation is the process to translate. Medication is the process to medicate. In nominalizations we reference the process in a way that assumes it has been completed.
If you’re speaking with a friend who’s ‘deciding’ on whether she’s finally happy
with the way her body looks, by using the nominalization of ‘decided’, you can
help shift their thinking rather rapidly towards them having already made the
decision. You could even do the same with yourself, by speaking about yourself
(or to yourself internally also), in referencing that you’ve ‘decided’ that you finally love your body regardless of what shape or size it’s in right now.
