CHAPTER 8
WHO AND WHAT IS GOD?
IN THE BEGINNING GOD (EL-O-HEEM) CREATED THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH.
GENESIS 1:1
EL-O-HEEM’; plural of el-o’-ah; probably from ale (El); mighty; especially the Almighty (but used also of any deity). A deity or The Deity. (The New Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, James Strong, LL.D., S.T.D., Thomas Nelson Publishers, 1984.)
We see in the very beginning of the Bible that God is in The Beginning. In the Beginning…ALMIGHTY! It never ceases to amaze me that somebody can believe that something can come from nothing. As a matter of fact, I believe atheists must be willfully ignorant. I understand that it is difficult to understand who and what God is because mankind is suffering from massive limitations physically, mentally and spiritually. That is why God must actively seek us out and give us a revelation of who and what He is in the Bible. However, if somebody claims that the universe and life just sprang into existence out of nothing, it definitely strains their credibility with me.
AND GOD SAID, LET US MAKE MAN IN OUR IMAGE, AFTER OUR LIKENESS; AND LET THEM HAVE DOMINION OVER THE FISH OF THE SEA, AND OVER THE FOWL OF THE AIR, AND OVER THE CATTLE, AND OVER ALL THE EARTH, AND OVER EVERY CREEPING THING THAT CREEPETH UPON THE EARTH.
SO GOD CREATED MAN IN HIS OWN IMAGE, IN THE IMAGE OF GOD CREATED HE HIM; MALE AND FEMALE CREATED HE THEM.
GENESIS 1:26-27
When the Bible says that we are made in the image of God, it does not mean God has ten fingers and ten toes. It means that God is a Spirit and we are also spirit. God breathed His life into Adam. We have the potential to create just like God creates. We can speak physical things into existence with our spoken word just like God speaks physical things into existence with His spoken Word. We can speak life and liberty and love into existence if we are the children of the living God.
