BEVERLY

Alone your spirit cries for wanting
The joy of another.
Afraid, your life lies in darkness smothered.

In need your heart calls for some joy,

Some rapture, some tender and loving

Moment after which two each to the other

Self and substance bring.
Two hearts humanly giving,
Two friends joyfully living
In the sanctuary of their love.

In truth men and women live not so free

That, as friends, each may perceive

And in perceiving fill their human needs.
