UPON THE DEATH OF ANIAS NIN

O Great Woman,
O Beauty who bore a truth
So living and so fertile
To us, still ensnared in the coil of time,

Your passing brings a humble silence,

A reverent stillness in which we cherish you,

A woman who gave of her mystery,
Woman to Woman,
And to man the vision of an honest lover

Who honored our humanity and welcomed

Our hearts to intertwine freely with yours.

O Great Woman!
Few saw your greatness when
You walked in fragile flesh
But Truth, the eternal victor, shall bury

These clouded voices and raise your beauty

Living and renewed as long as there be hearts

To know its magic.

O Great Woman,
These words of tribute are done.
We mourn, but we go on.
