2 Pretty Boy

Pretty Boy

Bassam Imam | Youth

Rating:

Pretty Boy is a beautiful story about a cat named Pretty Boy. He's picked up by Animal Control, is eventually tossed into a gas cannister (gas chamber) with other dogs and cats. Incredibly, he survives. He's on the run, continues to travel and meets peculiar characters on the way. Unfortunately, Pretty Boy dies, but he's followed by another Pretty Boy, a skunk, who has metamorphose surgery to become like his best friend in the whole world, a cat. The second Pretty Boy becomes a hybrid animal (skunk-cat mix). Like the former Pretty Boy, his life is full of unusual events, and he too meets up with unusual characters.

4 Those Incredible Animals

Those Incredible Animals

Bassam Imam | Youth

Rating:

My book begins where Pretty Boy ended. My book contains many remarkable characters, mostly squirrels, but also cats. Much of the book's setting takes place in Montreal and the surrounding areas, with less emphasis on Ontario. Every single animal character is given anthropomorphic characteristics. These animals include squirrels, cats, birds, dog, skunk, raccoon, chipmunk, and a police horse. The human characters, though important, are secondary to the animal characters. Throughout the book there is a struggle between the main animal characters and humans, in particular the law, so much so, some of the main animal characters are forced to flee their hometowns and their home provinces. For the most part, they go westbound. Although I've inserted myself as a character in the book, the animal characters have primacy.

5 Limpy

Limpy

David T. Rorvik | Youth

Rating:

This book is about a boy who is handicapped. He is numb on his left side from birth. He is not paralyzed. The book starts when he is eight. He hangs out with a group of boys around his age. They go on adventures and do things that boys of that age do. The boys accept their friend as he is and think nothing of his handicap. There’s a three-lagged dog that wonders into town, a stray, a really motley looking mutt. Everyone chases it off. This handicapped boy takes the dog in and befriends him. He names the dog Limpy. Limpy starts going on adventures with the boys, but the town’s people don’t like the mutt. Something has been turning over trash cans and getting into things at night in town and the people know it’s the three-legged dog. They want it destroyed.
