Chapter 5 ~ Biggest Lie #4 Exposed: People Care About What You’re Interested In

I can almost see the confused look on some of your faces. I bet that you’re probably saying to yourself, “But it’s my blog!”

Sure, and people are coming to your blog because they like what you have to say, right? They like your blog posts, right? They like you, right?

Listen here … and I’m going to be really upfront and honest with you. Nobody really cares about what you’re interested in. All they care about is getting the information that they want and are looking for.

And it’s such a shame that some bloggers fail because of this – but it’s true.

In fact, I’ll be bold enough to say that this is pretty up there as one of the main reasons they fail. And they fail because they’re told this bold faced lie by these so called “experts.”

And because of that lie, they only publish what they want and are interested in and don’t actually research or consider what anyone in their target audience actually wants to read about.

Like for example, say I went to a blog that specializes in helping people get traffic to their blogs. I go there expecting to receive tips and insider information on how to improve my traffic and get more subscribers who’ll eventually become paying customers when I decide to sell a product or service.

However, a few of the most recent posts happens to be on WordPress plugins and choosing a Hosting Company and other topics along those lines … and those are topics that blog owner is interested in.

Now, if they continued to do this, overtime, their blog will fail because they’re more focused on writing what they want to write about and not what the audience wants to learn.

Since their audience will expect content about various ways to get more traffic and building a list, choosing to write about something completely different would be a horrendous mistake.

And that’s why the majority of bloggers fail.

They don’t cater to what their audience wants, they just focus on what they want and think is interesting.

Number one rule in blogging is to build an email list.

Number two rule in blogging is to always be listening and paying attention.

You should never have to guess what people want to know about because you have so many avenues to gather that information:

  • Visiting forums ·
  • Asking them through emails or social media
  • Reading comments on other popular blogs (highly effective) ·
  • Attend free webinars

It’s all about listening and paying attention. And when you do that, you’ll start to focus your content more towards your greatest assets, your readers and your subscribers.
