Lessons for Adversity
9. Do something to keep you moving forward.
Every day do something positive. The smallest of actions will still move you forward. Putting one foot after the other will get you to where you will need to be. You may not be able to control everything, but you can control some things—focus on those items first. Focus on tangible and measurable results.
Task: Make a list of things that you can do today that are positive. If you can’t think of anything, start with the following: Smile and shake hands with all of the employees, talk with them, get their thoughts on how to improve, call all of the customers and thank them for their patronage, and call all suppliers and thank them for being part of the team. If you can’t do that, go back to basics. Pick up a broom and start sweeping the shop floor. Pack boxes, put on shipping labels, take out the trash, organize the warehouse, etc. Remind yourself where you started. Be grateful each step of the way.
