ACT V, SCENE 4: Keep Your Word

The day of the wedding has arrived, and Rosalind (still in her disguise as Ganymede) gets several interested individuals to renew the promises that they have made to her:

DUKE SENIOR will allow his daughter to marry Orlando if Ganymede is able to produce her.

ORLANDO will marry Rosalind should she arrive.

PHOEBE will marry Silvius if she refuses to marry Ganymede.

SILVIUS will marry Phoebe if she refuses Ganymede.

Rosalind then tells the four individuals to keep their word, their promises, before she exits with Celia (disguised as Aliena).

Duke Senior remarks to Orlando that Ganymede reminds him of his daughter. Orlando responds that he at first thought that Ganymede was Rosalind’s brother but then remarks that she is of the country and is the niece of a magician, who has tutored her in his art. Orlando is implying that Ganymede’s magic may somehow be the cause for their thinking that Ganymede is like Rosalind.
