Supervisory Security Specialist (Chief, Protective Security/Supervisory Protective Security Advisor)

Salary Range $125,132.00 to $161,900.00

Duties: The mission of IP is to lead the national effort to protect critical infrastructure from all hazards by managing risk and enhancing resilience through collaboration with the critical infrastructure community. In this position, you will be a security subject matter expert who engages with Federal, State, local, tribal and territorial (FSLTT) government mission partners and members of the private sector stakeholder community to protect the critical infrastructure. You will assess vulnerabilities and consequences; develop, implement and provide national coordination for protective programs; support efforts to counter violent extremists; and facilitate critical infrastructure response and recovery. The major duties of a Supervisory Security Specialist at the full performance level of GS-15 include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Represent the Office of infrastructure Protection within an assigned region as an expert advisor and liaison between the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Federal, State, Local, Tribal and Territorial (FSLTT) officials
  • Coordinate multi-agency response and recovery to critical infrastructure threats and incidents
  • Lead the assessment and planning of regional and local events to mitigate threats to physical and cyber infrastructure programs
  • Lead the DHS effort in developing strategies to identify and inspect/assess key critical infrastructure through high level coordination with FSLTT officials and private sector partners.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with owners and operators of critical infrastructure, meet regularly with site security personnel and State and local officials to share information and review protection support by Homeland Security and other Federal agencies.
  • Lead complex critical assessment projects that examine physical and cyber resilience and inform long term DHS, NPPD, and IP strategic goals, as well as national policy.
  • Supervise Protective Security Advisors (PSAs) in their activities to address physical and cyber risks

Qualifications:

To qualify for this position at the GS-15 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include: 1) Developing policy or program guidance on physical and cyber security countermeasures; 2) Overseeing security countermeasures to ensure their viability in mitigating physical and cyber threats and vulnerabilities; 3) Providing technical guidance and subject matter expertise on critical infrastructure programs; and 4) Coordinating with multiple agencies to plan strategic responses to man-made or natural disasters.
