"Scott, this is Ira. How are

"I'm good."

"You won't be when you

hear what I have to tell you."

Scott turned serious. "What is it?"

"Noah is going to have to travel to Europe just to receive treatment for his heart condition."

Scott was stunned. He had no idea that his son had heart problems. Doctors had never informed him of it. They knew the benefits that they would enjoy if they kept this on the down low.

They were getting bags and bags of money from Noah's insurance company, and they always told Scott that these operations that they performed on him, that they were intended just to keep the muscles from continuing to grow excessively. "Did you just say that my son has a heart condition?" he said, crying bitterly, and broke down crying. Giselle was coming into his office to give him some paperwork regarding a new product that she'd just finished working on for Spears International, a new lipstick, and as soon as she saw him crying, she ran to him and gave him a big hug.

"Scott, I thought that you knew," Ira said, totally blown away.

"No, I didn't," he said, still crying. "I was never told. Oh, my God, my son's going to die!"

"Scott..."

"How long has this been happening?"

"According to what Mr.

Galloway told me---"

Scott interrupted him. "Mr. Galloway knew and I didn't know?" he screamed.

"Scott try to keep calm," said Giselle.

"According to what Mr. Galloway told me," Ira went on to say and then sighed, "it's been happening for ten years, ever since

C. B was born."

"No!" said Scott and punched the desk repeatedly. "No, there's no way!" and kept banging on the desk. "There's no way that my son," he said and suddenly let out a heavy breath and sat down again.

I'm going to call an ambulance and send it over there. This man could be having a heart attack as we speak. I can't watch him die and stay here with my arms crossed across my chest, thought Ira and then said, "Scott, it's going to be ok. All that we have to do is get together and choose the right doctor for Noah."

Ten minutes later, an ambulance arrived at the Spears International premises. Everyone was amazed. They instantly imagined that one of the men that was over the age of forty that worked there, that he'd had a hard attack or a stroke right under their noses, but they imagined that it would've been anyone but Scott, the head of the enterprise. Scott seemed so strong and so happy, and he was, but the news that his son had heart problems, that literally broke him down. The paramedics ran in. The minute that they asked Nora at the front desk where Scott Spears worked, she froze in fear and started crying out of the blue. "He's on the fourth floor," she said. "He works at different floors everyday, but his main office is situated on the twentieth floor, the very top of the building."

The paramedics rushed to the forth floor as quickly as they could. They went up in the elevator. Meanwhile, Scott was completely tranquil and he'd resumed his daily activities, inside and outside the computer. His heart was literally a beating time bomb. What he'd had, it wasn't a heart attack, it was the warning sign that a heart attack would come his way if he didn't take it easy. He was typing a "Thank you" letter to all of the people that supported the anti- acne scrub "Jessica's Skin" and he was making copies of a survey asking customers how satisfied they were to avoid rushed an inexplicit phone calls if there was ever a complaint. One thing that Spears International staff cared about was the opinion and the well- being of their customers, and that's why the public hadn't taken away their support, and they'd never take away their support---unless Hailey Johnson did something to ruin everything for them. They were hitting her so hard that she was slowly losing her patience. She felt like she couldn't breathe. She was a walking time bomb about to explode.

Chapter 38

The paramedics rushed into Scott's office, leaving him literally breathless. He hadn't had a heart attack, but he was only days from suffering a massive heart attack that would surely leave him dead. His heart was working way too hard. He thought that his brain was the part of his body that was working the hardest, but it wasn't. It was his heart. "Is something wrong?"

As the first paramedic walked around his desk, he said, "Are you Mr. Scott Spears?"

"Yes, I am," Scott said,

stunned. you up."
