Behind the scenes

The moment the hospital staff realized Max was missing, an alarm was raised and the manhunt began. Every public CCTV camera feed was intercepted to detect him, using facial recognition systems to show his location. Sam Leighton had already been informed by the extraction team in the hospital that Max had escaped. He instructed a technician to modify the data set that defined Max’s image in the various law enforcement agencies’ computer systems. The data set would be quite different from any photo a person would see. That would be easy to do, because the systems were developed by companies allied to The Organization. No one would detect the changes to the data, yet the computer systems could no longer identify Max.

Sam smiled to himself; both Max and Carla were trouble magnets with charmed lives. Even the simple missions they were allotted often turned out to have unexpected dimensions and repercussions.

Currently, Sam’s team were desperately trying to find Max and deliver him safely in Italy. At the same time, the UK police and MI5 were also trying to pick up his trail.

MI5 had applied internal pressure on the police to drop the charge of the scientist’s murder and associated bombing of the London hotel. MI5 had evidence this was the handiwork of a master assassin who died impaled on machinery in a derelict building in Hungary. The rumor was that Max and Carla were behind the assassin’s death and the recovery of the scientist’s papers.
