A challenge for Carla

Hearing Carla return, Mr. Rabinowitz called out - he wanted to speak to her.

“Carla, your heroic action the other night saved our friends’ daughter from being raped, possibly murdered. Our son Tom has now got mixed up with a bad crowd and we don’t know how to help him.”

“Mr. Rabinowitz, I appreciate your hospitality, but I am a simple technician in a laboratory, not the A Team. Tom is a nice lad, but he must manage his own life choices.”

“You’re not ordinary, Miss Walters. I saw how you handled the police, I heard about your connection with Governor Buck and how you singlehandedly defeated four armed thugs, to save a girl you didn’t even know. Please, just listen. I think you can help in some small way,” pleaded Mr. Rabinowitz. He then held out his hand.

Somehow the false fingerprints Carla flushed down the drain had bobbed back up and now Rabinowitz had them. She snatched them, before he could close his hand.

Carla did not want attention at any time and now Rabinowitz held her secret identity in his palm. Her mission would be jeopardized if she was exposed. The Organization would take drastic steps to remain hidden and the Rabinowitz family would cease to exist, all because of her carelessness. It might even fall on her to kill the family, to prevent this disaster getting worse.

“At least I can do that for you Mr. Rabinowitz. By the way, where are your wife and son?”

My wife is with relatives. She knows about these false fingerprints - my son is nearby. If you can help, I will phone and get him to talk to you.”

“You seem to have covered all the bases, let’s get down to the bones of the problem.” Carla turned on her charm; it would not defuse the situation or make it worse.
