Chapter 23

THE SETTLEMENT

0305HRS

[The policemen pick up gloves and the torches and proceed to the

settlement. They sweep through the corridors of the settlement. It

rained earlier so the ground is damp. They reach where they think is the

target. There are a lot of footprints near the entrance and the door is

wide open. It is marked Prefab 13. They look at each other in amusement

before proceeding to the open prefab. They enter and pour their torch

lights upon the interior]

CONSTABLE DIRTH RUOTA

Holy shit!

CONSTABLE SAMMY MENSA

Hell! I thought this was a domestic disturbance.

CONSTABLE DIRTH RUOTA

Crap!

HOOPTE GOBBLEDYGOOK

CONSTABLE SAMMY MENSA

Maybe things escalated quickly.

[moves from body to body, feeling for pulses]

CONSTABLE DIRTH RUOTA

It is gonna be a bloody long night.

SERGEANT BARRY CHARGER

No rest for the wicked. Go grab the tape, Dirth and call in forensics and

the coroner. Sam start the audio.

CONSTABLE SAMMY MENSA

[Clicks on the tape recorder]

We are in the settlement at Old Swington Estate.

[looks at his watch]

It is 3:05 AM and we are at Prefab No. 13

[pauses]

Three victims. Two males, one female with GSWs on their foreheads.

Non-responsive, no pulses, considered dead at the scene. This is

Constable Sammy Mensa speaking. In addition there is Constable Dirth

Ruota and Sergeant-in charge Barry Charger, at the scene. We were

responding to a domestic disturbance call.

[clicks off]

SERGEANT BARRY CHARGER

I don’t understand. The Super didn’t mention anything about gunshots.

What the hell happened here?

CONSTABLE SAMMY MENSA

Beats me Serge
