About the Author:

Geoff Clynes is a broadly experienced technologist, who moved to Sales-Marketing early in his career.  While now retired, he has a strong record of business and people development, in roles up to General Management, in a wide cross-section of functional fields including finance and insurance, technology manufacturing, sales and marketing. During that period he delivered professional services in a wide range of industries, including training, consultancy, project development and management, marketing communications and research.

He has worked most in business-to-business market development roles over this period, more recently focusing on Direct Marketing and Customer Service, helping small and micro-businesses achieve more cost-effective customer contact for success in demanding times.  With a broad IT background built over almost five decades, he prefers to deal with high tech as a user, demanding the benefits promised by marketers, and a reasonable return on the investment.

His largest project was planning and building Telecom Australia's business sales force in the mid 1980s.  That project called for over 1000 people in new competitive roles, bringing in annual revenue at completion of over $700M.  Culture change was a major element in this seven-year program, developing commercial and sales staff from a mainly unionised and clerical public service workforce.

His other main development projects include opening the Australasian activities of Texas Instruments’ computer/systems group, introducing their minis, micros and computer peripherals to the Asia-Pacific market: a full import - sales - service business, which grew from scratch to multi-million dollar revenues over seven years; and opening Victorian Sales and service offices for:

Era Computer Corporation (Data encryption)

Phoenix Technology Pty Ltd. (Computing hardware)

J.N. Almgren Pty Ltd. (Telecommunications projects)

A principal of Business Line, a marketing services company established in 1989, he is an Electronic Engineer with an MBA, and has authored two Australian Telemarketing texts.

As a part-time mentor over the last fifteen years, Geoff has studied the ways we generate new ideas and preserve energy in our work life.  He undertakes inspirational and motivational projects in Gippsland, and helps owner-managers invest in their creative skills and career development.  Past (and inaugural) President of Baw Baw HomeBiz, he offers his help in marketing and business promotion fields to State and Federal government support groups working with Gippsland small businesses.

For real relaxation, he is an active member of U3A, the international University of the Third Age, and derives much enjoyment from the language learning sessions he presents to that community in eastern Victoria.
