Status and Gold

In many cultures, gold is considered to have the highest esteem compared to other metals. This is because gold possesses many illustrious qualities. In several religions, gold is associated with purity because it’s a pure metal. Gold is also associated with immortality due to the fact it does not appear to corrode with age. Gold is widely accepted in many cultures as the color of spiritual light. This is because of its lustrous and often luminous yellow coloring.

People of high rank wear golden jewelry to demonstrate their wealth and power. Due to the fact gold is a metal that is viewed in high esteem, it is given in the form of medals and awards for those who have accomplished something noteworthy. This giving of gold tribute originally started as a military tradition and then became adapted by the arts in the eighteenth century. The tradition of golden trophies being given to winners of competitions can be traced back to ancient times. In ancient Greece, golden trophies were awarded to those who would accomplish some sort of outstanding feat.
