Chapter 4

Universities in India and world over

Several  inventions  and  innovations  in technologies, world over, can be traced to  universities  in  developed  countries and  Institutions  created  for  research and   development   in   an   identified areas.

What do we do in Indian universities? Even  filing  patents  for  which  there is  no  takers  are  projected  as  a  great achievement.

Research  papers  and  doctorates  that are irrelevant to the society.

RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS:

EDISONS   &   NEWTONS   are   not   the creations of universities. They are born thinkers.  They  are  not  born  in  every decade.  Even  if  there  is  one,  it  is difficult to locate them.

But, post world war attempt to create one   such   discoverer   by   collecting several  hundred  of  the  best  brains from   the   society   and   aggregating their thinking into innovate had been successful.

In   India,   we   have   one   successful institution,   Indian   Space   Research Organisation  that  proves  that  it  is doable.  Luckily  Dr  Vikram  Sarabhai could gather one such team and India has reached a coveted spot in the world map of nations in Space technology.

What about the host of other research institutions    which    either    produce nothing  worth  while  and  wasting  the nation’s scant resource?

Any organisation would drift from the set  goal.  They  need  to  be  reviewed and correct their courses.

With  such  a  huge  investment  some day  they  should  produce  goods  and services  so  that  they  are  financially independent  and  contribute  back  to the society.
