Jessica is an Immigrant

Jessica Hernandez had her story published by the Huffington Post. She talks about her struggles of fitting in when she first left Morelia, and came to the U.S. She was the new student in her second grade class, and was not able to communicate in English. She talks about how often she felt alone and frustrated for not being able to express herself in a language others would understand. She also shares the struggle of her immigration status and her future goals of attending Harvard. She talks about her past, describing herself as a butterfly, "At first, I was in a shell. I didn't want to talk to anyone - I didn't want people to make fun of me. But once I learned English and got comfortable, I couldn't stop. I spread my wings, and now I feel like I can fly." She gives her readers a couple of reminders: have patience, be kind, and don't judge.
