Chapter 12 The Temple of Ebomel

Kort entered the tavern. While they waited for him, a building a few houses away caught Misara’s attention. It was a temple. But the architecture was strange to her. She had heard of the temples of the new gods. But she had not actually seen one. Above the entrance of the temple she could make out a carved figure of a woman holding a sickle. She recognized it as a symbol she had learned when she was still a contemplative. She tried to recall the name of this new god.

“Ebomel, the goddess of the harvest,” Misara said out loud after finally remembering the name. Revik and Beret gave her a baffled look. Before they could say anything, Misara pointed and said “That’s a temple of the new god Ebomel.”

The wizard and the knight simply nodded. But Misara’s curiosity grew. She wanted to see what the temple looked like from the inside. She was about to walk towards the temple when Kort came out of the tavern.

“Master Ladris’ house is not far from here,” Kort told them.

Without speaking a word, they mounted their horses and proceeded to the house. Half an hour later, the sun was already setting.

“The tavern folk said Master Ladris’ house was beside the only oak tree in the area,” Kort said.

Misara and the others were silent as they began to feel the urgency. It was already evening when they saw the large oak tree. There was a house beside it. A light within was visible from the outside. They could make out a shadow moving inside the house. That must be Master Ladris, Misara thought.

They dismounted and approached the house. Kort appeared to survey the surroundings. There were two other houses in the vicinity. The voices of families could be heard from where they stood. “Let me be the one to knock,” Misara said. The others watched her as she approached the front door. Misara knocked gently. A long moment passed before it opened.
