Chapter 46 The Mountain of Sorrow

High atop the Mountain of Sorrow, Kaur the Necromancer stood as he held the Tome of Shadows in his hands. He opened the pages that revealed the ritual that would release the entity that had been imprisoned in this mountain for seven hundred years.

Finding the Tome did not prove easy. It had been lost centuries before when the Tower of Dark Magic was nearly destroyed by the Archon of the Tower of Elemental Magic.

He did not yet wish to begin the ritual, for he awaited the presence of another.

The cold wind that blew across the mountaintop did not faze Kaur. His power made him unaffected by any natural force. Only the strongest of magic spells could harm him.

Minutes passed and Dorgol the High Priest of Kirion finally arrived.

Kaur understood that for this ritual to work, he needed the help of this High Priest. The Ritual of Releasing fed upon the despair of men. And the Stone of Affliction that Dorgol possessed was the key.

“We are ready,” Dorgol said.

They now awaited the great eclipse to begin. The ritual’s final component was that it be performed when Estar, the bright moon covered the sun. The ritual had to be completed while total darkness blanketed the mountain.

Several minutes passed when the sunlight around them began to dim. Kaur and Dolgor both looked up and saw that it was beginning.
