Shadya was avoiding her dad because she didn’t want to look him in the eye and realise that he’d gotten her in this mess with eyes wide open. First of all, he could have told her he was sick. How was she supposed to make contingency plans for them if she didn’t know what the situation on the ground was? It wasn’t fair, expecting her to pick up the baton when she hadn’t been told that the race had changed. How long had he been dying anyway. And God! To hear it from Mariam…it rankled.
