For those of you who are unfamiliar with collage portraits, they are pictures of people made up of hundreds of other pictures. The closer you look, the more fascinating the final picture becomes.
What the other pictures are is irrelevant. It only really matters how much dark and light is in them.
Flash fiction is very much the same thing. After enough stories, you start to put together a pretty clear picture of who the writer is. Not who they want to be, but who they really are.
At first blush, you might think that what each individual story was about was important, but in the end, it’s really just about how much dark and light there is in each one.
If you read all the stories in this book, you probably know Lance Manion better than his family and friends.
