1 c. butter
1 c. vegetable oil
1 c. powdered sugar
1 c. granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
4 c. flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
Sugar (white granulated or colored for holidays)
Cream first 4 ingredients, then add eggs and vanilla. Sift together the remaining ingredients and add to dough. Chill dough. Roll 1 tablespoon dough in sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Press down on balls with glass dipped in sugar. Decorate with sprinkle if desired. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes or until golden brown.
