Ø Show respect for the other person's opinions. Never say, "You're wrong."
Ø If you are wrong, admit it quickly and emphatically.
Ø Begin in a friendly way.
Ø Get the other person saying "yes, yes" immediately.
Ø Let the other person do a great deal of the talking.
Ø Let the other person feel that the idea is his or hers.
Ø Try honestly to see things from the other person's point of view.
Ø Be sympathetic with the other person's ideas and desires.
Ø Appeal to the nobler motives.
Ø Call attention to people's mistakes indirectly.
Ø Talk about your own mistakes before criticising the other person.
Ø Ask questions instead of giving direct orders.
Ø Let the other person save face.
Ø Praise the slightest improvement and praise every improvement. Be "hearty in your approbation and lavish in your praise."
Ø Give the other person a fine reputation to live up to.
Ø Use encouragement. Make the fault seem easy to correct.
Ø Make the other person happy about doing the thing you suggest.
Many charities provide packs for schools to educate them about important issues such as animal welfare and health in developing countries. Animal Aid and PETA provide free packs and even a person to come in and present a talk to a class, if requested. Doctors Without Borders also produce many packs and resources for schools. Your local community library or school library also provides you with an excellent opportunity to inspire others. Both types of library willingly take donations in good condition.
