Chapter 19

Will We Simply Obey?

In a walk with our LORD, we will be confronted with choices and decisions that we have to make. Invariably it appears that the LORD’s directions are usually different from the ones that we would naturally choose. Our LORD has the ability to reveal His way whenever the time arrives for such a decision; therefore, it is necessary for us to decide if we are going to be submissive to the LORD and His way. Either we were going to obey the LORD, or we were not! If we believe that God is showing us something to do, we need to just do it! It is only after we finish the course that we can look back and maybe make some sense out of it. Instead of retreating, greet each day as a quest to find out what is necessary to complete God’s plan and ultimately gain the victory we need, be it finances, housing, transportation, or anything else. Fear is our greatest deterrent and must be recognized for what it is—an enemy of faith. We do not see tomorrow, but God does, and He has all of our tomorrows worked out in His journal of life. No matter what we go through, we will be the better for it if we will obey the LORD’s leading. We should always let Him hold on to us and see us through. Like the old song says, “God will make a way where there seems to be no way. He works in ways we cannot see; He will make a way for me.”1

I remember a trip where I went snow skiing with my brothers and sisters, and they, all being proficient skiers, were going down the “black slopes.” After much persuading, they convinced me to try my hand at the most difficult of slopes. I was just a newbie on snow, but had quite a few summers on water skis. As I neared the edge of the drop off, I saw that it looked virtually straight down and fear gripped me along with my many doubts of survival at attempting such a crazy feat. I remembered the verse of scripture that says, “Perfect love casts out all fear,”2 so just as I headed over the edge, I shouted out, “I love this.” I tumbled my way down the rest of the hill. Well, I didn’t have any fear; it wasn’t any fun either, but I did survive. God is able to see us through even when we tumble our way through a situation, but we must have a heart to obey. He is always watching very intently and lovingly, don’t ever forget that!
