Chapter 88

A False Sense Of Security

Janie Begins…

A home and possessions can give a family a false sense of security. I realize that situations and times ahead in America may mean people having to leave their homes in a hurry. Certain types of situations could cause us to flee for safety and protection such as being unexpectedly driven out of our homes because by warnings of weather related disasters or a terrorist threat. Earthly possessions can be a trap if we are unable to release them at a time when we should be fleeing from whatever is facing us. Numerous stories of those who died during Hurricane Katrina revealed some people who stayed because of pets or possessions. The decision cost them their lives.

History reveals many examples of this tragedy. In places such as Russia, Ukraine, germany, switzerland, and Poland during the rise of Hitler, many families refused to flee their homes and possessions, resulting in multiplied thousands losing their lives. In an earlier chapter we shared the story of Boris sorokovsky about a group of Russian Christians in 1933 that escaped from persecution by the leading of god’s direction. This testimony included an example of families who chose not to leave their homes and possessions resulting in starvation, death, or imprisonment.

Years ago I read a book with testimonies from Jewish children whose parents were warned to leave their homes by dreams, visions, and even gut feelings during the nazi reign of terror. The adult writing the book had escaped as his family’s lone survivor. As a very young child he watched his family tortured as he hid under the bed. He recalled the conversation the evening before as his parents argued about whether or not to flee; they discussed their not wanting to lose their home and possessions. They chose to stay, hoping things would be okay. The child realized that god had spoken to his parents, but they chose not to obey, because they did not want to leave their property and belongings. This decision cost them their lives and the lives of some of their children.

Jim shares….

The main reason Americans would not want to leave their homes is that they have a false sense of security and do not believe that destruction and persecution could ever come to their lives in America. This type of thinking is seriously flawed. Our country has been in two world wars and many other conflicts, but always in foreign lands. We have sat in our living rooms watching these atrocities on television hardly considering that these horrible travesties could one day be in our neighborhoods. America has many times been the instigator in foreign conflicts that has led to the deaths of thousands and thousands of innocent families. We will ultimately have to pay our debt to society also, but not with money or handouts like in the past. We will reap the things we have sown; it is the Law of god. Keep in mind that it will take more than a few pistols or shot guns in our home to defend our land from enemies sent to judge us.

We must begin immediately turning to god in repentance and prayer. God is merciful and patient with us, but as long as our life is more concerned about what is on the TV tonight, we will just be fodder in the eyes of the enemy. We will see Americans betraying Americans hoping to save their own skins, and it will come to all that are not prepared. We have failed to consider the consequences of our sin and selfish life-styles, and we have failed to judge ourselves, therefore god will be our judge. And His judgments will be far greater than a fine or a little time in jail! if we truly want to be a survivor against the things coming on our land, our only hope is god. We cannot live for Hell today and find Heaven on the Day of Judgment. We must order our lives about today, before it is too late. Amos a prophet said it ever so clearly, “You push away every thought of disaster, but that only hastens the Day of Judgment.”1

Preparing in advance is another reason for this book. If a family does not know how to listen to the Holy spirit guide them, it would be difficult for them to leave their home and possessions. We need to “know God”, and begin to learn to “hear God,” and determine that we will “obey God” before we get into a crisis or emergency situation.

We must not live in a state of denial, believing that an act of war, or terrorism, or an internal military conflict, or any other frightening emergency situation or disaster could not happen in the community where we live.

Janie shares…

Will we wake up before it is too late? Or will we remain in our stupor and be reduced to cattle being led to the slaughter? god does not owe us anything. It is we who owe Him our allegiance and dedication. It does not take long for any student of history to determine the events within a nation that cause its downfall. Yet, we, as Americans, have become sluggish in thinking that somehow we are above being judged or put in a situation of major conflict. Do not ever think that it could not happen to us! Any of us, in any part of this country, could be touched in a moment.
