Chapter 64

10th May

A fox trotted into the dark farmyard. There was no light from the deserted farmhouse or from the outbuildings nearby.

Bishop’s End farm was deserted.

Suddenly, the animal stiffened with heightened awareness. It glanced at the outbuilding on the far side of the farmyard. It then turned and ran away in the opposite direction.

Nobody saw an irregular, glowing object – about the size of suitcase – melting its way outwards through the plastic roofing of that outbuilding and then rising into the night sky.

Some people in the nearby village, who noticed the light in the sky, simply assumed it to be a Chinese lantern.
