 CHAPTER 6

It is late August, and the first day of school is here. School usually starts in early September, but this year it begins on August 28th. All three girls are attending Holmes Elementary School. Tammy is in sixth grade, Erin is in third, and Ashley is in kindergarten. Mom and Dad are driving them to school in the mini-van. The girls are well supplied with notebooks, pens, paper, erasers, rulers . . . and a Barbie lunchbox for Ashley. The lunchbox, as everyone knows, is a very important possession to a six-year old. Tammy and Erin have book bags that have their first names embroidered on them. Ashley does not have a book bag, but she does have a lunchbox . . . something the other two do not have . . . and, well, it all seems to work out to everyone’s satisfaction.

The mini-van pulls up in front of the school, the side door slides open, and the three girls step out. Well, Ashley sort-of hops out. They walk under the veranda, through the front doors, and on into the school. Before driving off, Mom and Dad give the school building a good look. “Prank worthy.”  says Dad. “Definitely.” says Mom.
