Search Engine Optimization (a side-note)
When people begin discussing search engine optimization, their first question is usually:
The goal in developing your website is for your website to obtain the highest possible position within the search engine rankings.
However, Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines are constantly updating and changing the parameters that they use in deciding which websites will be displayed in the top 10 results list. Therefore your website may appear in the top 10 one month and fall to the top 20 or 30 the next month.
In many circumstances, when you type your domain name or company name in the search engines, your website listing will appear in the top 10 results. Actually, it will probably appear in the top 3 or 4 results, unless you have used a name very similar to another website.
Please note that no one can guarantee a top ranking position for your website. In fact several search engine optimization companies in the United States have been sued by their clients for making that guarantee and then being unable to deliver.
Why? Again, because the search engines are constantly changing the way they view and rank websites. Even as I write this book Google is making significant changes to the way they index websites.
If your website is developed properly with many SEO techniques woven in, includes high quality content, and you apply search engine marketing strategies, then you stand the best chance of achieving excellent search engine results regardless of any on-going changes. Understand though, that the more competition you have for your main keywords, the longer it could take for your website to obtain the best results. The best way to get to the top is to begin today before your competition does!
