Chapter 11

The Public Reads About Diane D’s Daring Escape Attempt!

The following day, a woman is inside an office cafeteria reading an article on social media with a headline that reads: DIANE D’S ATTEMPT TO BREAK OUT OF MENTAL INSTITUTION IS FOILED BY HER FAMILY!:  “What!” the woman shouts.  She turns to her fellow co-workers and shouts, “Hey look!  This article says that Diane D had tried to escape out of the Mental Institution yesterday!”

“What!” the other employees shout as they look at the article.

“Diane D tried to escape out of the Mental Institution?!” another woman shouts.

“That’s what it says right here!” the first woman shouts.  “It says that she had demanded to be released from the mental institution just so she can go out to the streets to find out why no one is purchasing tickets for the remaining empty seats near the stage!”

“What!” the other employees shout.

“Diane D demanded to be release from the mental institution so she can go out to the streets to find out why no one is purchasing tickets for the remaining empty seats near the stage?!” one of the men shouts.

“That’s what this article says!” the first woman shouts.  “It says that Diane D’s family told her that she’s not going anywhere, then the next thing she did was try to break out of the mental institution right in front of them!”

“What!” the other employees shout.

“She tried to break out of the mental institution in front of her family?!” a second man shouts.

“That’s what this article says!” the first woman shouts.  “It says that first Diane D tried to break out of her grandma’s office inside the mental institution, then was gonna attempt to break out of the entire mental facility altogether, so her family had to grab her to stop her!”

“Oh no!” the other employees shout.

“You mean they had to hold her back?!” the second man shouts.

“Yeah!” the first woman shouts.  “It says that Diane D became so out-of-control trying to break away from her family!”

“She became out-of-control again?!”

“That’s what is says!  She was so desperate to break out of the mental institution that she started dragging her family right towards her grandma’s office door when they were trying to hold her back!”

“She started dragging her family again?!” the first man shouts.  “You mean to tell me she’s that desperate to get those front row seats filled up that she’s gonna attempt to break out of the mental institution right in front of her own family so she can go out to the streets to find out why no one is purchasing tickets for the remaining empty seats near the stage?!”

“That’s what it says!  That’s when Miss Margarita took a paddle that was beneath her desk and whacked Diane D right on the behind with it!”

“What!” the other employees shout.

“Miss Margarita whacked Diane D with a paddle that was beneath her desk?!” the second woman shouts.

“Yeah!” the first woman shouts, “because Diane D was too out-of-control trying to break away from them!”

“My God!  What was Miss Margarita doing with a paddle beneath her desk?!”

“No one knows.”

“Well did the whacking stop Diane D from trying to escape?!”

“Not at first.  The first whacking Miss Margarita gave Diane D made Diane D fall out of her family’s arms and fall to the floor, but it didn’t seem to stop her because when she halfway got up off the floor, she tried to make a quick dash for the door!”

“What!” the other employees shout.

“Diane D tried to make a dash for the door?!” the second man shouts.

“Yeah!” the first woman shouts, “she still tried to escape!”

“My God!  Maybe she was trying to get away from Miss Margarita whacking her!”

“Could be because it says after Diane D fell on the floor again, Miss Margarita whacked her real hard again with that paddle!”

“What!” the first man shouts.  “Miss Margarita whacked Diane D again?!”

“Yeah, according to this article!  After that, Miss Margarita kept whacking Diane D while Diane D was lying helpless on the floor!”

“She was laying on the floor while Miss Margarita kept whacking her?!”

“Yeah!”

“Wow!”  They all continue to look at the article.

Later on, a black family is inside their dining room area throwing a small dinner party.  One of the men around his mid-40’s is sitting at the end of a table reading an article on social media with a headline that reads: DIANE D MAKES A DESPERATE AND DARING ATTEMPT TO BREAK OUT OF MENTAL INSTITUTION THEN GETS FLOGGED BY HER GRANDMA MARGARITA!:  “My God!” the man shouts.

His family looks at him as his wife who’s also around her mid-40’s says, “My God?  My God what?  What are you reading?”

“This article says that Diane D’s grandma Miss Margarita caned her and whacked her when she tried to escape out of the mental institution yesterday!”

“What!” the rest of the family shout.

“Diane D tried to escape out of the Mental Institution?!” the wife shouts.

“Yeah!” the first man shouts.

“Oh my God!” an older woman shouts.  “Why did she try to escape?!”

“Because when her father, husband and brothers came into her grandma’s office inside the mental institution to tell her twenty-five more tickets for the front row seats for their upcoming concert were sold, she realized that still wasn’t enough tickets and some seats near the stage will still be empty, so she threw a fit!”

“She threw a fit?!” the man’s brother shouts.

“Yeah!  She told her family that she wanted to be released from the mental institution!”

“What!” everyone else shouts.

“Diane D told her family she wanted to be released from the mental institution?!” the wife shouts.

“Yeah!” the first man shouts, “that’s what this article says!”

“Why did she want to be released from the mental institution?!”

“So she can go out to the streets to find out why people are still not purchasing tickets for the remaining empty seats near the stage!”

“What!” everyone else shouts.

“So she can go out to the streets to find out why people are still not purchasing tickets for the remaining empty seats near the stage?!” the wife shouts.  “That’s the only reason she tried to escape?!”

“Yep that’s the only reason!” the first man shouts.  “Her family told her she’s not going anywhere, then she tells them that she demands to be released from the mental institution!”

“What!” everyone else shouts.

“She demands to be released from the mental institution?!” the older woman shouts.  “Diane D told her family that?!”

“Yeah!” the first man shouts.  “When her family told her that she’s not going anywhere, that’s when she tried to break out the mental institution!”

“That’s when she tried to break out?!  Oh no!”

“It says her family had to hold her back from trying to escape, then she became out-of-control trying to break away from them!”

“She became out-of-control again?”

“Yeah!  That’s when her grandma Miss Margarita got a paddle that was beneath her desk and whacked her right on the behind with it!”

“What!  Miss Margarita whacked Diane D with a paddle?!”

“Yeah!”

“My God!  Where did Miss Margarita get a paddle from?”

“It says from underneath her desk.”

“From underneath her desk?!  What was she doing with a paddle beneath her desk?”

“Good question!  I guess she needed it there to keep Diane D in check because this article says that Miss Margarita makes Diane D sit beside her desk all day!”

“She does?!  How come?”

“I guess to keep an eye on her.”

“But doesn’t Diane D already know why people aren’t purchasing tickets for the seats near the stage?” an older man asks.

“I guess not, or else she wouldn’t have tried to break out of the mental institution to go out to the streets to find out in the first place!”

“But how was she going to find out the answer to why people aren’t purchasing tickets for the seats near the stage by breaking out of the mental institution?”

“By approaching people on the streets and asking them!”

“By approaching people on the streets and asking them?  She really think she’s going to get the answer that way?”

“I guess so!”

“But what if the people on the street told her ‘no, they didn’t purchase tickets for the remaining empty seats near the stage and weren’t going to’?!” the man’s brother shouts.  “I would hate to find out what her reaction would be towards them!”

“I would hate to find out too!  But being that Diane D became so out-of-control when she tried to escape out of the mental institution, it’s a possibly that her family might ban her from performing in the fundraising concert!”

“What!” the wife shouts.  “Her family might ban her from performing?”

“It’s a possibility.”

“But is Diane D still able to perform after the whacking her grandma gave her?” the man’s brother asks.  “I mean is she even able to stand, walk or dance after the whacking her grandma gave her?”

“I think so.”

“But when Diane D’s family had plan to ban her from performing at a concert years ago when they learned that she beat up the little boy Marcus, she went out-of-control then too and attempted to go after that kid!”

“I know!  Knowing of Diane D’s out-of-control behavior and knowing of her other personality’s wrath, I fear she might just succeed in bursting and escaping out of the mental institution if she tries again!”

“I doubt Diane D is going to try to escape the mental institution again, because if she does, she’s gonna have to deal with her grandmother’s wrath again!”

“Yeah that’s true,” the wife says.  “I feel sorry for what her family has to go through with her.  I feel for them having to deal with someone like her.”

“I feel for them too,” the first man says, “that’s why I think we should purchase tickets for some of those remaining empty seats near the stage.”

“What?  You think we should purchase tickets for those remaining empty seats near the stage?”

“Yeah, for Diane D’s family’s sake, after all, they are trying to help raise money for the victims of Diane D’s other personality and their families.”

“Yeah that’s true.  But before we even purchase any tickets, I want a signed agreement from the Diaz-Davidson Organization to assure that the audience members sitting near the stage will be safe from Diane D’s out-of-control behavior and her other personality’s wrath just in case either of her personalities get out-of-control!”

“That’s true!” the man’s brother shouts.  “I’ll probably purchase tickets for the remaining empty seats near the stage too only if Miss Margarita is in the front row seats.  I think she should sit right there in the front too.”

“Oh yeah?” the first man asks.  “How come?”

“So she can protect us and the rest of the audience members from her dangerous granddaughter, that’s how come!  I think Miss Margarita is the only one who can handle Diane D or Diane D’s other personality!”

“Oh yeah?  Well if Miss Margarita is the only one who can handle Diane D or Diane D’s other personality, then why wasn’t she able to protect all those authority figures from Diane D or Diane D’s other personality inside that hypnosis room last year?!”

“I know, that’s true!  Even though she wasn’t able to protect all those authority figures from Diane D or Diane D’s other personality inside that hypnosis room, I still consider her and Diane D’s other family members heroes for foiling Diane D’s escape from the mental institution!  Think about it, if Diane D had succeeded in escaping out of the mental institution, Lord knows what might have happened to people out there on the street if they had encountered her or her other personality that day!”

“Yeah that’s true,” the first man says.  “Thank God her family foiled her escape.”

“I agree.”  The family continues to look at the article.

Margarita is inside her office at the mental institution.  She is speaking on the phone as she says, “Yes Doctor Schultz, I want to set up another anger management assignment for Diane!  She got out-of-control again yesterday and attempted to escape right out of the mental institution!”

“Yes I heard about it!” Dr. Schultz, a male white doctor around his early sixties says.  “Did she really try to escape from the mental institution to go out into the streets?”

“Yes she did!  That’s why I want her to have another anger management assignment after that attempted escape stunt she pulled yesterday because she cannot control her anger!”

“I’m sorry that Diane went off like that!  I heard that you took a paddle and whacked her when she tried to escape!  I heard that she was helpless on the floor while you were whacking her!  Did you really whack Diane with a paddle Miss Margarita?”

“Of course I did!  I certainly didn’t whack her for nothing!”

“I’m sure you didn’t Miss Margarita.  I’m sorry that it had to come down to that.”

“Yeah I’m sorry that it had to come down to that too Dr. Schultz.”

“I understand Miss Margarita.  Okay, when do you want to have Diane Come in?”

“How about Wednesday afternoon.”

“Wednesday afternoon is fine.  I’ll have her anger assignment ready.”

“Thank you Dr. Schultz.  We’ll see you Wednesday.”

“Okay, see you then.  Bye.”

A few days later, the same black family the first man and his wife are in their kitchen sitting at the table eating breakfast.  The wife pours some cereal in a bowl as the man reads an article on social media with a headline that reads: DIANE D APOLOGIZES TO HER GRANDMA, FATHER, HUSBAND AND BROTHERS FOR HER OUT-OF-CONTROL BEHAVIOR AND FOR HER ATTEMPT TO ESCAPE THE MENTAL INSTITUTION!:  “Wow!” the man shouts.

His wife looks at him and says, “Wow?  What happened?”

“This article says that Diane D apologized to her family for her out-of-control behavior!”

“What!  Diane D apologized to her family?!”

“Yeah!  She apologized to her dad, her husband and her brothers for losing it and getting out-of-control when they showed her that only twenty-five more tickets for the front row seats were sold and she apologized to her grandma and the rest of their family for trying to escape giving them all a hard time!”

“What!  You mean to tell me that Diane D came to her senses and is admitting to what she did?!  She’s admitting to her family that she was wrong for having an out-of-control behavior?”

“It sounds that way.”  The man continues to look at the article.

A couple days later, the same man and his wife are in their kitchen again sitting at the table eating breakfast.  The wife pours some coffee in a mug as the man reads an article on social media with a headline that reads: DIANE D’S FAMILY DECIDED TO COME CLEAN AND TELL HER THE TRUTH ABOUT WHY PEOPLE WEREN’T PURCHASING TICKETS FOR THE SEATS NEAR THE STAGE!:  “What!” the man shouts.  “Oh no!”

His wife looks at him and says, “Oh no what?  What happened?”

“This article says that Diane D’s family decided to tell her the truth about why people weren’t purchasing tickets for the seats near the stage!”

“What!  Her family told her the truth about why people weren’t purchasing tickets for the seats near the stage?”

“Yeah!”

“Oh my God, did they tell her that SHE’S the reason why the seats near the stage weren’t being sold?”

“Yep, they told her that!”

“Oh really?!  My God, how did she feel when she heard that?”

“She felt hurt by it because she claims it’s like people are still avoiding her like the plague when she claims she’s not out to get anybody!”

“She’s not out to get anybody?  That’s what she said?”

“Yeah!  She said she’s not even thinking about going after people attacking them, she just wants to perform, plus she claims she still doesn’t remember what happened when those authority figures got killed!”

“She still don’t remember killing them?!”

“No she still doesn’t remember it!”

“So being that she doesn’t remember killing them, she never admitted to killing them and never once apologized for it, did she?”

“Well she claims she’s sorry for what happened to them.”

“She’s sorry for what happened to them?”

“Yeah, and says she’s sorry IF she killed them.”

“What!  She’s sorry IF she killed them?!  That’s what she said?!”

“That’s what this article says.”

“But she DID kill those authority figures, her family was right there in the room when it happened!  They witnessed the whole entire thing which caused them to be traumatized to this day!  They’re still traumatized by it!”

“They are!  Her family already told her that she killed all those authority figures and she still doesn’t believe she killed anybody!”

“Does she think her family would lie to her and tell her that she killed somebody if she didn’t?!”

“It’s not that she thinks her family would lie about it, it’s just that she claims she’s not a killer and would never ever go around killing people whether they’re authority figures or not!”

“Okay.  She might not remember killing those authority figures, but she do remember trying to escape out of the mental institution, does she?”

“Well since she apologized to her family for trying to escape, I guess she does remember that part.”

“But doesn’t remember the part of killing all those authority figures.”

“No, she still doesn’t believe she killed anybody.”

“Wow, that is so sad.  Well I’m glad she’s admitting to this wrongdoing of trying to escape out the mental institution and apologized to her family for it, but I hope she’s not apologizing to her family just so they won’t ban her from performing in the show.  I hope she’s not sucking up to her family just so they can keep her in the show.  I hope she was sincere when she apologized to them.”

“I think she was.”  The man continues to look at the article.

The following week, the same man and his wife are in their kitchen sitting at the table eating dinner.  The wife pours some tea in a coffee mug as the man reads another article on social media with a headline that reads: DIANE D’S FAMILY SIGNS AGREEMENT!:  “What!” the man shouts.  “Get out of here!”

His wife looks at him and says, “What’s going on?”

“This article says that Diane D’s family signed an agreement assuring that Diane D won’t give any problems while she’s performing on stage!”

“What!  The Diaz-Davidson Organization signed an agreement assuring that Diane D won’t give any problems while she’s up on stage?!”

“That’s what it says.  And guess what?  They even had Diane D herself sign the agreement too!”

“What!  Diane D signed the agreement too?”

“Yeah!”

“Oh my God!  Did her family make her do that?”

“No!  She volunteered!”

“She volunteered?!”

“That’s what it says!  It says that Diane D was willing to sign the agreements, as long as it helps get all the front row seats filled up!”

“As long as it helps get the front row seats filled up?!  Seriously?!  That’s all she cared about was getting those front row seats filled?!”

“It seems that way.”

“Damn, I should have known it was a catch when she volunteered to sign any agreement!  She really wants those front rows seats filled up bad, doesn’t she?”

“Well it looks like her wish just might come true!  Plus she still feels bad knowing that SHE’S the reason why people weren’t purchasing tickets for the front row seats that she wants to personally apologize to the victims and their families.”

“What!  She wants to personally apologize to the victims and their families?!  You’re kidding!  Diane D wants to personally apologize to the victims and their family members?!”

“That’s what this article says!”

“Oh my goodness!  So she’s admitting that she killed all those authority figures?!”

“No, how can she admit to killing them if she doesn’t remember doing it?!  She wants to apologize to them IF she killed them!”

“IF she killed them?!  She’s still saying the word ‘IF’?!”

“Yeah she’s still saying that word.”

“Oh.  Okay.  So if she wants to personally apologize to the victims and their family members, when and where is she planning to do that, at the fundraising concert?”

“I don’t think so.  I think maybe at the Mental Institution or at a hotel where she would be let out on house arrest again.”

“She might be let out on house arrest again?!”

“I think to make that apologetic speech.”

“Oh boy!  So if Diane D performs at the fundraising concert, who’s going to perform on stage with her?”

“I think her original crew, the Dianettes.”

“The Dianettes?!  Oh no, the Dianettes are going to perform on stage with Diane D again?!”

“Yeah, they always perform on stage with her, don’t they?”

“Yeah, but I thought that maybe they would be afraid to perform with Diane D again after what she did last year!  Aren’t they afraid to even be near her?!”

“I don’t know how the Dianettes feel about being near Diane D or performing on stage with her again.  All I know, is that they’re supposed to perform with her at the fundraising concert.”

“But aren’t there six of them?”

“Six Dianettes?  There has always been six Dianettes performing on stage with Diane D.  There has been six Dianettes performing on stage with Diane D since forever.  Why?”

“Because she killed six people last year, and now she’s gonna have six Dianettes performing on stage with her!”

“And, so what?  What does six Dianettes performing on stage with her have to do with her killing six people?”

“Because if she can kill six people inside that hypnosis room, then she can kill six people who are on stage with her!”

“Oh.  So are the Dianettes supposed to change the amount of their members from six to another number because Diane D killed six people?”

“Yeah I think so!”

“So what number do you think the Dianettes should change the amount of their members to, from six to what?”

“From six to five, then from five to four, then from four to three, then from three to two, then from two to one, then from one to zero until the Dianettes are all gone and there aren’t any more members!  I think each member of the Dianettes should drop out of that group one by one!”

“You do?!  Why?!  Don’t you like the Dianettes?!  I thought you liked the Dianettes!  I thought you loved their performance, their dance moves and everything!”

“I do like the Dianettes!  As a matter of fact, I love the Dianettes, I always have, it’s their leader I’m worried about!”

“Their leader?”

“Yes!  It’s their safety from their leader I’m concerned with!  I think they should drop out from being members of that group while they’re still alive and have the chance to escape from their leader!”

“Escape from their leader?  Oh come on now, have you ever heard of Diane D harming any of the Dianettes or any of her family members?”

“No, but I hear she does tell the Dianettes what to eat, what not to eat and not to drink any hard liquor!  I hear she forbids any of them to wear any make-up at all!  If she finds out that any of the Dianettes are eating anything that’s not good for their health or finds out that any of them are drinking hard liquor or wearing any make-up, she’ll throw a huge fit and they wind up being afraid of her fit, then wind up either running from her OR caving in to her health food, no hard liquor and no make-up demands!  That’s why when any of them eat junk food, drink hard liquor or wear any make-up, they will have to sneak and do it behind Diane D’s back when she’s not around so she won’t get into a fit of rage!  They don’t want to deal with that!”

“I know, I don’t blame them!  Remember, two members of the Dianettes ARE Diane D’s cousins you know.”

“I know, Nancy and Charlotte, the ones who had an encounter with her other personality inside their family’s home!”

“Only one of them had an encounter with Diane D’s other personality inside their family’s home, it was Nancy.  The other cousin Charlotte only heard the conversation between Nancy and Diane’s other personality from inside one of the bedrooms.”

“It’s the same thing as far as I’m concerned!  She heard the other personality talking!  That’s encounter enough for me!”

“That’s encounter enough for me too.”

“I swear those Dianettes need to escape from Diane D fast!  They shouldn’t perform on stage with her for their safety!”

“But the Dianettes want to perform at the fundraising concert because they want to help raise money for the victims too!  They know what Diane D did last year.”

“That’s exactly why they need to escape from her, because what she did last year!  They need to escape from her wrath!”

“I know, but they figure the least they can do is perform and be there for the victims and their family.”

“Well that’s nice of them to want to support the victims.  I just hope they be safe up there on that stage with Diane D.”

“Don’t worry, they will.”  The husband and wife continue to look at the article as the wife drinks some tea.

That same day, Barry, Aunt Celeste and Michael are at the mental institution office.  They are getting old family photos together trying to create a family tree.  Four mental institution staff members, two men and two women, enter the office.  They approach Barry and Aunt Celeste as one of the staff members, a Hispanic woman says, “Hi Mr. Barry, Miss Celeste.”

“Hi,” Barry says.

“Do you need help with anything?”

“No, not at the moment.”

“Okay.”

“So what’s going on here?” the Hispanic male staff member asks.

“Well Diane just finished her anger assignment and stepped off to take a break,” Aunt Celeste says.  “When she comes back, Dr. Schultz wants her to make a family tree, so we’re getting lots of old photos together to help her out.”

“What?” the black female staff member says.  “You all setting up a family tree for Diane D?”

“Yes.”

“Wow that’s wonderful!  How’s it coming along?”

“Well we just started getting it prepared featuring all four of Diane’s grandparents as youngsters,” Michael says.

“What?  You have all four of Diane D’s grandparents as youngsters?”

“Yeah.”

The hospital staff members look at the photos.  “Wow,” the black female staff member says.  “Is that Miss Margarita?”

“Yeah.”

“It is?”

“Yeah.”

“Wow she was cute as a little girl!”

“She was!” the Hispanic female says.  “And that’s Diane D’s other Grandma Gracy as a little girl, right?”

“Yeah,” Michael says.

“Wow, she was cute too!  I like these old photos of Diane D’s grandmothers as youngsters!”

“Yeah I like them too,” the white male staff member says.  “I even like the photo of Diane D as youngster besides them,” the white male staff member says as he points to one of the photos, “but where are the photos of Diane D’s grandfathers?  Where is Tomas’ photo as a youngster?  How come his photo is not there?”

“Yeah,” the Hispanic male staff member says, “how come Diane D’s photo is there instead of Tomas’ photo?”

“That’s because that IS Tomas in the photo,” Michael says.

“What!” the staff members shout.  “Tomas?!  It is?!”

“Yeah that’s not Diane in the photo.”

“It’s not?”

“No.”

“What!”  The staff members look at the photo again and see Tomas as a preteen in a mountainous area looking at the moon and night sky.

“I t
