A Certified Tragedy

Chapter 41

The cause of death was homicide by person or persons unknown according to the certificate. There was no surprise about the autopsy. Chi passed the report to Dick and summarized its findings. Denny had been murdered. Using hair specimens, the coroner concluded that Denny was not a heroin user given the absence of morphine in the fibers. The lack of other needle marks confirmed the fact. Furthermore, the crime scene seemed staged to the investigators. It was an easy conclusion for the forensic medical team that examined his body in meticulous detail. After all, he was a diplomat from an important, allied country and no corner was cut to determine the truth of his death. It was now up to the Thai investigators to find out who killed him and why.

Chi nudged the process along by contacting his former colleagues and friends at the police headquarters in Chiang Mai and filled them in on Ron Johnston, telling them where he could be found, in a freezer in the city morgue in Nong Khai. There was no hurry to arrest him since he wasn’t going anywhere fast other than to Hell.

Dick was pleased with the finding that Denny had never used heroin before as he strongly believed since it was totally out of character. At least Denny’s reputation would remain intact and the autopsy report would dispel any rumors that he was a druggie. Ron Johnston had gotten his just reward at Angie’s hand, but Amar was still on the loose. He was the one ultimately responsible for his friend’s death. And he was the one who must pay the price with his own life. Retribution could be a sweet thing, he thought.

Sometimes those who served and protected fanaticized and fantasized about castrating their foes with a dull knife and hanging their fuzzy dice from their cars rearview mirrors.
