“Fontaine … Come in Fontaine.” Agent

Kelsey Bhang called.

“Shhhh...” I whispered as I put my

sight on the target.

I never thought I’d be doing this again

but it is what I was made for. I had no

other training and the training I

learned at Säkerhet Corp couldn’t be

used in any other profession.

Dianne had sought me out to join her

new team that consisted of I.T.

Specialist Agent Kelsey Bhang, two

new agents fresh from the academy

Agent Zack Lee and Agent Shirlekha

Bag, and myself.

Dianne had trained me so she knew I

was very good at what I did.

I had been away for a while raising

our son and being a wife which I

struggled at a lot.

After a lot of consideration and a lot of

discussion trying to convince Michael

everything would be ok. We agreed it

was time for me to return especially

after the visit we received from who

we believe was Mr. Byun years back.

“I got him. Should I take the shot?”

Zack assured.

“Wait for Fontaine.” Shrilehka replied

in a whisper.

“Shhhhh.” I replied again.

I took a deep breath and inched my

finger on the trigger.

“Dammit! Who the hell is that?” I

complained as another person entered

my view finder.

“OMG just take the damn shot

Fontaine!” Zack demanded.

“Its all good, Fontaine. Deep breath

and try again.” Kelsey said.

“I could have taken the shot,

Fontaine.” Zack complained.

“Good for you, Lee. No one asked

you.” I mumbled.

“Why do I always have to wait?” Zack

asked angrily.

“Because Fontaine’s your team leader

Zack. Now be quiet and stop being a

hot head!” Shrilehka replied.

“That’s bullshit. I hate this! She is

always dragging.” Zack mumbled to

himself.

As I focused again I could not believe

who it was. My eyes were surely

playing tricks on me.

“No way.” I whispered.

“Yes way?” Kelsey whispered back.

“No, no not you, Kelsey.” I added.

“It cant be.” I thought as I tried to get

another look at the persons face.

“What’s going on, Fontaine? Take the

freaken shot already.” Zack

demanded.

“I have the shot, Fontaine. Should I

take it?” Kelsey interrupted unsure.

“Eff This! You take the freaken shot,

Bhang. Come on!” Zack commanded.

“Stand by please.” I replied.

Right then the person turned around

and looked directly into my

viewfinder, as if they could see me. I

jolted back in surprise.

“Bunny?” I whispered confused.

“Bunny where?” Kelsey repeated.

“Huh? There’s no freaken bunny in the

shot! Where the hell do you see a

bunny Fontaine?” Zack added.

“Is that a code word of some kind?”

Shirlekha asked confused.

“Abort! Abort!” I commanded.

“Abort, why? I’m gonna take the

freaken shot!” Zack replied.

“Abort?” Shrilehka questioned.

“I said ABORT!” I commanded.

“10-4 Fontaine. Relax.” Zack replied

angrily.

“What the hell is going on, Fontaine?”

Dianne interrupted.

“Your chosen team leader is messing

up once again.” Zack mumbled with a

smirk.

“What the hell! Return to base, right

now!” Dianne commanded.

“10-4 boss”. Zack confirmed.

“On our way.” Shrilehka added.

“10/4.” Kelsey ended.

I quickly packed my bag and ran to

my car. I tried calling Michael on the

way home but he didn’t answer.

“Where is he?” I thought as I raced

home.

I quickly pulled into my driveway as

Michael was exiting the house.

“Hey honey, are you done with work

already?” Michael asked as he walked

towards me.

I nodded as I looked at him up and

down.

“Are you ok?” Michael asked.

“Where are you coming from?” I

asked.

Michael looked confused.

“From the house? What’s going on

baby?” He said pointing at the door.

I nodded as he kissed my head.

“Did you forget? I have that interview

today with the Musical company. For

the producer position?” Michael said

with a concerned look on his face.

I felt as if I was in a daze. I looked

around then back at him.

“What’s wrong, Kat? You look like

something is bothering you.” Michael

asked.

“Nothing, nothing is bothering me. I

just have a lot on my mind this

morning bunny.” I whispered as I

wiped my face.

Michael smiled as he walked towards

his car.

“Wish me luck.” Michael said as he put

his bag in the car.

“Good luck bunny.” I said as I watched

him drive away.

Suddenly my earpiece comes on and

startles me.

“Where the hell are you, Fontaine?”

Dianne said angrily.

“10 minutes away.” I said as I got back

in my car and rushed towards the

office.

As I pulled in, I see Zack and Dianne

standing by the front door. As I

approached, Zack walked away.

“What is going on with you, Kat? This

mornings simulation was easy,

especially for you. You are a seasoned

professional.” Dianne exclaimed.

“Nothing Dianne, I just lost the shot.

You know that happens sometimes.” I

replied with attitude.

Dianne nodded with disappointment.

“Then why didn’t you let Zack or

Kelsey take it? That is what you are

supposed to do. They are your team.”

She responded.

I shrugged my shoulders and walked

passed her into the lobby.

“Did you forget what your job is? If

you can’t handle this simulation, how

are you supposed to handle a real life

situation?” Dianne asked sternly.

I stopped quickly and turned to

Dianne.

“Come on Dianne, you know me. I

didn’t forget what my job is. I just lost

the freaken shot, ok.” I replied in

anger.

“That’s unacceptable Katya.” Dianne

countered.

I walked into the conference room

where Kelsey, Shrilehka and Zack

were. Dianne followed me in.

Dianne stood in front of the room as I

sat down. I could see the

disappointment in her face.

“Ok, I’m just going to say it. What the

hell happened this morning? You guys

aren’t working as a team.” Dianne

said addressing the room.

“Ask Fontaine who is hallucinating

bunny rabbits?” Zack mocked.

“Shhhh.” Kelsey added angrily.

“Its my fault. I messed up. We all

make mistakes, don’t we?” I replied

without hesitation.

Kelsey looked over at me and smiled.

“I know its just a training exercise, but

you are not one who makes mistakes,

Fontaine. Plus you have a team. Why

not use them?” Dianne said.

I looked towards Zack and he smirked.

“You know Fontaine, your team does

knows what they are doing.” Zack

said with a cocky tone.

“Oh my gosh Zack! Be quiet.”

Shirlekha stated.

“We have one more exercise tomorrow

morning. Then we take on this job.

There can’t be any more mistakes. I

chose you guys cause you guys are the

best, remember that. 6AM, same

positions.” Dianne said looking at a

file.

“10-4 boss.” Zack replied with

cockiness.

I remained quiet. Zack smiled and

walked out the room with Dianne.

I looked over at Kelsey and Shirlekha.

“You ok Kat, what happened?” Kelsey

asked.

“I heard you say bunny.” Shirlekha

added.

I looked around then moved towards

them.

“I swear I saw Michael there.” I

whispered.

“Oh damn, that makes sense now. You

call Michael, bunny. I get it now. I

thought you actually saw a bunny.”

Kelsey added with a giggle.

“They may have put him there to

check your mental status. I’ve heard

that sometime they insert people who

resemble your family members to see

if you’ll still take the shot.” Shrilehka

added.

“I’m not sure if that’s true Shrilehka

but it’s unlikely that Dianne would do

that. She’s never done it before.”

Kelsey countered.

“I swear I saw him clearly. He walked

right into the shot then looked directly

at me.” I explained.

“Maybe your mind is overworked.”

Shirlekha said.

I nodded in agreement. Shrilehka

tapped my shoulder and smiled.

“Don’t worry Kat. Go home and rest it

off and we’ll try again tomorrow. I

trust you with my life so I know this is

just a fluke.” Kelsey said with a smile.

I smiled and gave her a fist bump.

“Maybe I should go home. I haven’t

slept well since the baby went to stay

with my mom. I feel so uneasy. I don’t

know what it is though cause hes

visited my mom before.” I replied.

“Maybe you just miss him. Try some

meditation that might work.”

Shirlekha suggested.

“Yeah or just go home and relax. Take

a bubble bath. Even better, take a

bubble bath with your bunny.” Kelsey

said with a giggle.

Shrilehka gave Kelsey a high five in

approval.

I giggled as I got up to walk away.

“Sadly he’s busy today. Plus I have a

bit of research to do so maybe another

time. I’ll go home as soon as I’m done

though. 15 minutes tops. Promise.” I

said with a sad expression.

“See you in the morning then. I’m

out.” Shrilehka ended.

I waved as they walked away.

“Who could that have been?” I asked

myself as I walked towards my desk.

I sat a my desk for a minute, just

staring at my computer. I totally

zoned out.

“Katya! KATYA!” Dianne startled me.

I looked at her with a dazed look on

my face.

“You seem very preoccupied lately.

You sure you don’t want me to put the

team on the case alone.” Dianne

suggested.

“No, I’m ok. I’ll be ready for

tomorrow. I promise.” I replied.

“I’m putting my faith on your word

Katya. I can’t have you upfront if you

are not ready. You and other agents

can get hurt.” Dianne scolded.

I nodded my head in agreement.

I couldn’t understand what was going

on in my head. Were my eyes fooling

me? Or did I see Michael there? Was

my mind telling me I returned to work

too early? I know it was just a

simulation but he looked so real, even

though no one else saw him.

“There’s no way that was him, Dianne

wouldn’t do that to me.” I whispered

as I logged into my computer.

I took a deep breath and began typing.

“I wonder how everything is going for

Michael? I hope he gets the job.” I

thought as I looked into the case file I

was working on.

Right then my cell phone rang.

“Hello sweetheart.” Michael said.

“Hey whats up? I was just thinking

about you.” I replied.

“I’m done with the interview. And

guess what?” He said excitedly

“What?” I said with a giggle.

“I was offered the job. I can start next

week if I want. I even have my own

office. How about that?” He explained

excitedly.

“Congrats bunny! That’s so wonderful,

I knew you would get it.” I said

happily.

“I was so nervous but everything went

well.” Michael said proudly.

“Ah hmm.” I replied.

“Kat, are you ok? You are starting to

worry me, baby.” Michael asked.

“I’m good, no need to worry. I was just

reading something on my new case.” I

replied.

“Ok. If you say so. Well we have to

celebrate so we are going out for

dinner, no excuses, ok?” Michael

stated.

“Of course bunny, I’ll see you tonight.”

I replied.

“6 o’clock Katya, ok?” Michael ended.

“I’ll be there bunny.” I said pensive.

“Ok, love you.” Michael ended.

“I love you more.” I replied slowly

hanging up the phone.

I glanced at my screen, scanning the

page.

“Lets see what we are going after.” I

thought.

I read through the first files then came

to an abrupt stop.

“Documents sealed? Why are they

sealed? Dianne usually has them open

by now.” I thought.

As I picked up the phone to call Dianne

concerning the file, I glanced over my

monitor to see Zack approaching me. I

quickly hung up.

“Hey Katya, can I ask you

something?” Zack asked.

“Yeah, sure. What’s up?” I replied.

“Did you really see a bunny in your

shot? I heard you say that during the

exercise.” Zack inquired.

I nodded no.

“Bunny is what I call Michael. He is

my husband.” I whispered.

He laughed and looked around.

“Your husband? Why would you think

your husband would be a target in our

exercise?” He pondered.

“I didn’t and he wouldn’t be. It was a

mistake. Weren’t you at the meeting?

We talked about this.” I quickly

countered.

“Then why did you think you saw see

him there?” Zack pushed aggressively.

“Zack, just walk away. I’m not in the

mood to argue with you.” I stated

annoyed.

“Listen, you need to fix this bullshit

excuse you have because next time I’m

taking that shot. Even if its your

bunny.” Zack threatened with a

mocking voice.

I rolled my eyes and began typing. He

smirked than walked away.

“I’ll be at the shooting range, in case

you need me, team leader.” Zack

mocked from across the room with a

laugh.

I flicked him off with a smile.

“Ughhh! Stop thinking about this. It

was a mistake. I imagined Michael

there because I was thinking about

him, that’s all.” I recited to myself.

As I prepared for the upcoming case,

the day went by quick. I didn’t even

notice almost everyone had gone

home already.

“Hey! You’re still here? You’re not

going home tonight?” Kelsey asked as

she walked towards the door.

“Oh shit! What time is it?” I asked as I

snapped out of it.

“6 o’clock. Duh.” Kelsey replied.

I grabbed my phone and saw 2 missed

calls.

“Oh man, Michael is gonna kill me.” I

said as I rushed towards the door.

Half way through my drive, my phone

rang again. The number came up

unavailable which was strange

because no one had this number but

work and family.

“Hello?” I said confused.

“Hello. Katya Fontaine?” The voice

said.

“Yes speaking?” I replied.

“Did you really think you and Michael

could hide from me forever?” The

voice said with a laugh.

“Who is this?” I asked as I looked at

the caller id again.

“Its an old friend. I’m offended that

you remember me?” He added.

“Stop the games. Who the hell is this?”

I said sternly.

The phone suddenly went dead. I hit

the steering wheel in frustration. I

immediately called Kelsey.

“Hey Kat.” Kelsey answered.

“Hey Kelsey, Question. Is my phone

constantly monitored?” I asked

confused.

“Monitored?” Kelsey responded.

“Yeah, like I just received a weird call

from who knows who. Can you track

it?” I said quickly.

“Ummm, I might be able to. Let me

connect to your phone. Give me a

minute while I pull over.” Kelsey said.

I took a deep breath as I waited.

“Please hurry.” I replied as I waited.

“Umm Katya, that last call on your

phone came from your house.” Kelsey

said.

“My house?” How?” I replied.

“Yeah, the coordinates from my trace

end up there.” Kelsey explained.

“Really? Shit! Michael!” I said as I

began to rushed home.

“Is everything ok?” Kelsey asked

concerned.

“I hope so. I’ll get back to you.” I

replied.

“Keep me posted please.” Kelsey

ended.

“Who was that? What the hell is going

on?” I thought.

I quickly tried dialing Michael’s

phone.

“Ughh! No answer. Dammit!” I said

outloud.

As I drove I began preparing my gun. I

pulled onto our driveway like a bat

out of hell. I quickly ran in with my

gun drawn.

“Michael?” I yelled from downstairs.

To my left I heard our kitchen door

slam. I quickly went in that direction

to find the door open but no one in

sight.

“Oh what the hell? Bunny! Is that you?

Where are you?” I shouted from the

kitchen.

I crept up the stairs and through the

hallway slowly. Pushing every door

open. Just then Michael stumbled out

of the bathroom.

“FREEZE!” I yelled.

“What the hell! KATYA!” Michael

yelled.

“Are you ok? Did you leave the

backdoor open?” I responded.

“Of course I’m ok. What the hell! I was

taking a shower. Put down your gun.

Oh my god!” Michael yelled angrily.

“Did you leave the back door open?” I

continued angrily.

“Yes, I left it cracked cause it was

stuffy downstairs. I always do that.

Whats the problem Katya?” Michael

argued.

“I’m sorry bunny. I thought someone

had broken in and you were hurt.” I

said in a low voice but still scanning

around the room.

“Why would you think that?” Michael

questioned.

I shrugged my shoulders. Michael

nodded his head in disagreement.

“Are you sure it was a good idea for

you to return to work? What if the

baby was here? You would have

scared him to death.” Michael said in

a stern voice.

I suddenly had an awful feeling in my

stomach.

“Mom and the baby?” I said as I

turned around and ran for the phone.

“What’s happening? Katya. KATYA!”

Michael yelled.

As I dialed out, the phone kept going

to voicemail.

“Come on. Answer the phone Mom?” I

said.

“Katya, what is going on? Talk to me

baby. What is happening!” Michael

yelled grabbing my arm.

“On my way home I received a weird

call and I thought you were in

trouble.” I explained.

“A weird call from who?” Michael

asked upset.

“I don’t know who it was. It was just

creepy. Kelsey traced it to here.” I

explained.

He pulled me close and hugged me

tight. Suddenly my phone rang.

“Hello, Mom?” I said anxiously.

“Hi Kat, I saw you called me a few

times. Is everything ok? We were at

the park.” My mom said.

“It was a mistake, mom. How are you

guys?” I said calmly.

“We’re good. We’re home now. He’s

having a snack. No need to worry. You

know that.” My mother stated.

“I know Mom! Give him a kiss from us.

I’ll call you guys back in a bit. I want

to read him a bedtime story. Ok?” I

said with a giggle.

“Ok. We’ll talk with you then

sweetheart. Say hi to Michael from

us.” My mom replied.

“I will.” I ended.

As I hung up I looked at Michael and

smiled awkwardly.

“I’m sorry.” I whispered.

“I don’t know Katya but I don’t like

how you’re acting. Maybe you should

take more time. No one will fault you

if you did. Plus that call could have

been that team member guy who

doesn’t like you. You know, like a

prank call.” Michael suggested.

“I don’t know. Maybe I should take

some more time.” I said confused.

“I know you are great at your job

honey. I just don’t want you to get

hurt.” Michael said concerned.

I nodded my head.

“Do you still want to go out? I can

order in. Cozy night at home.” Michael

suggested.

“No no let’s go out. Today is your day!

We are celebrating you bunny.” I said

with a smile.

Michael smiled shyly.

“Let me shower real quick and we’ll

go, ok?” I said.

“Are you positive?” Michael asked

again.

“Of course.” I said as I kissed him.

We hadn’t had an evening together in

a long time and it was perfect. I

couldn’t even remember the last time I

saw Michael really smile. His laugh

and happy demeanor made our

evening complete. For a moment, we

were back to how we used to be. We

had been so wrapped up in our own

separate lives we hadn’t had time to

love each other like we used to. But

tonight our fairy tale love was back.

The next day, I arrived to morning

briefing a bit late. As usual, nobody

really noticed but Zack.

“Its about time you arrived, team

leader. Dianne said 6am not 6:15

slacker.” Zack said out-loud.

“Yeah good morning to you too, jerk.”

I replied annoyed.

“Looks like you had a really nice

night.” Kelsey said with a smirk.

I smiled and winked.

Just then Dianne entered the room.

“Good morning agents.” She said in a

cheery mood.

She smiled as she opened a file on her

desk.

“I have good news. We are going to

skip this mornings exercises.” Dianne

began saying.

“Do you think we should with Katya’s

constant mistakes?” Zack interrupted.

Dianne motioned with her hand for

him to be quiet.

“We have been given the go ahead on

the assignment. And I trust we all will

do well. Katya, you and your team

will fly out Friday, early morning.

Shrilehka and I will stay behind with

intelligence from here.” Dianne added.

“Are you sure you trust the entire

team?” Zack asked looking towards

me.

“You know what Zack, you are the one

that’s not trusted in this team.” Kelsey

argued.

Zack laughed out loud.

Kelsey mocked his laugh.

“Stop it Zack, it’s too early. I have

trust that this team will get the job

done. If you don’t think so I can

replace you with another agent.”

Dianne replied.

He nodded his head no as he looked

towards me.

“This assignment is confidential. No

spouses, girlfriends, boyfriends etc.

You know the drill. No contact.”

Dianne stated.

“You hear that Katya. You can’t tell

your bunny.” Zack mocked.

“Shut up Zack! What the hell is your

problem.” Kelsey said annoyed.

I rolled my eyes and smiled.

“You’re so annoying.” Shirlekha

added.

“You guys will be briefed Thursday

night with an early flight on Friday to

return Monday morning. Understood?

Easy, short case. The complete files

have been transferred to everyone’s

cell for review, if needed.” Dianne

ended.

“Oh damn Dianne, I forgot to tell you,

part of the file is locked. I couldn’t get

into it.” I said.

“I didn’t even get the file. Did you add

me to the email list.” Zack asked.

“Wait! What? That’s weird. Shirlekha,

can you check into that?” Dianne

instructed.

“Sure.” Shirlekha replied.

As she typed we all talked amongst

ourselves.

“Umm Dianne, it says file is corrupt.”

Shirlekha said.

“Let me get back to my desk and I’ll

look into it. You all have the original

file follow that for now. Ok.” Dianne

said as she walked away.

We all agreed.

I was excited to get back into work.

Strange to understand but I missed

working. I know its not your usual job

but its a job. And I knew I could do it

very well.

As I approached my desk I saw I had a

message on my phone. I sat down and

dialed to hear the message. At first I

thought it was a hangup call but then I

heard that voice again.

“Katya Fontaine, Remember me? I just

wanted to welcome you back to work.”

The voice said with a laugh.

I recognized that voice as the one who

called me the other day. Was this

Byun? Was he back to torment us? I

tried to dial back the call but the call

couldn’t be completed. Quickly I called

Shrilehka. I could have called Kelsey

but I didn’t want her to know Byun

might be back.

“Hey Kat, whats up?” Shrilehka

answered.

“Hey, could you do me a quick favor?”

I asked.

“Sure, what can I do for you?”

Shrilehka responded.

“Can you run my desk phone for

recent calls received?” I asked.

“Of course. What are you looking for?

Anything specific?” Shrilehka asked.

“All incoming call from last night until

now.” I explained.

“Ok. That’s easy. Your phone received

only 3 calls and all were in house.”

Shrilehka searched.

“In house, Really?” I said confused.

“Yes weird huh? All calls came from

Zack’s office. He’s probably making

prank calls. Geez, he’s so damn

annoying.” Shrilehka added.

“Probably. Thanks Shrilehka. That’s

all I needed. You are awesome!” I said.

As I hung up, I looked up towards

Zack’s office. He looked back at me

and then closed his blinds.

“Ughhh I cant stand him.” I thought.

I couldn’t believe this was Byun. I

really thought he was actually done

with us. But then, knowing Byun’s

character, I’m sure he’s been

searching for us since the day we

moved. But now, how was he calling

from Zack’s office. This building is

secure.

“Could Zack be involved with Byun?

No, hes not that cunning.” I thought to

myself.

Right then my phone rang and the call

was coming from Zack’s office.

“Fontaine.” I answered.

“Fontaine, Katya Fontaine?” The voice

said.

“Who is this?” I asked.

I looked towards Zack’s office.

“Oh I’m so hurt. You don’t recognize

my voice.” The person said.

I softly put down the phone and

walked quietly to Zack’s door. I

quickly opened the door to find Zack

sitting at his desk working on his

computer.

“What the hell Katya!” He said

startled.

“Are you on your phone?” I asked in a

soft voice.

“Does it look like I’m on my phone.”

He replied with an attitude.

I pointed to his phone and motioned

for him to pick it up. He slowly raised

the receiver to his ear.

“Hello.” He said.

“Zack? Oh damn, how strange. My line

didn’t even ring. Can you come to my

office real quick?” Dianne said.

He hung up the phone then looked at

me suspiciously.

“Are you psychic now? How did you

know Dianne was on the line?” He

asked confused.

“I didn’t know. I just had a call from

your office to my phone but it wasn’t

you.” I said.

“Maybe lines got crossed, that

happens sometimes. We are all

wireless. Who was it though?” He

responded confused.

I nodded as he walked passed me.

“I’m not sure.” I replied.

“Maybe you are just going crazy Kat.

Maybe it was Bunny calling, oohh go

save him.” He added with a laugh.

I slowly walk to my desk. I was

actually spooked by this. I needed to

tell Michael. As I reach for my cell I

saw I had a text message waiting.

“I hope to see you again soon.” The

message read.

It came from a private number so

there was no use in tracing it. As I

worked, I constantly kept checking my

cell. I couldn’t wait for this day to end.

As I arrived home I decided not to tell

Michael. I felt it would be safer for him

not to know.

But was it safer?

Was I putting him in a dire situation?

This could be just a bad joke.

Morning came quick.

“Ughhh.” I said in a groggy voice as I

reached for my cell phone to turn off

the alarm.

I turned over and smiled as I watched

Michael sleep for a few minutes.

“Sweet Bunny.” I whispered as I

caressed his face.

He smiled and slowly opened his eyes.

His smile always makes my heart

flutter.

“Bunny, I have to get ready to go.” I

said as I cuddled into him.

“I miss you already.” He said with a

smile.

“Yeah, me too.” I said with a giggle.

I turned around and cuddled closer to

him. He felt so warm as he wrapped

his arms around me.

“Promise me, you’ll be careful.” I

whispered.

“I think I should be saying that to you.

Don’t you think?” He replied.

“You know what I mean.” I replied

holding him tight.

“I know, I know baby.” He replied as I

peeled myself away from his warmth.

I got up and prepared myself to go.

While taking a sip of coffee my cell

phone beeped.

“Ok its too early for this.” I mumbled

as I grabbed my cell.

I noticed my cell was updating.

“An Update? Now?” I said as I walked

over to Michael who was still in bed.

“I love you bunny.” I said as I kissed

him.

“I love you too baby.” He whispered.

“Ahhh you are so warm. I don’t want

to leave.” I said hugging him.

“Yeah yeah but you have to go. I

know, I know.” He replied in a joking

tone.

I smiled and kissed him again.

“See you Monday.” I said as I walked

towards the door.

“Stay safe baby.” Michael said as he

waved with a kiss.

Quickly the car taking us to the

airport arrived. I shivered as I walked

down my driveway to the car. It was

so cold out.

“Hey.” I said as I got into the car.

“Hey.” Kelsey said in a nervous voice.

“Where’s Zack?” I asked.

“He requested to be picked up last.”

Kelsey replied with an attitude.

“What a diva.” I said with a giggle.

Kelsey giggled in response then stared

off into the distance. As we pulled up

we could see Zack waiting outside.

“He looks anxious.” I said.

“He’s such a fake. A hot head. You

know, he has been waiting for a job

like this all his miserable life.” Kelsey

replied rolling her eyes.

I giggled.

“Hello Agents.” He said upon entering

the car.

He always had such an annoying

condescending voice.

“Hey Zack.” Kelsey said.

I raised my eyebrows in

acknowledgment.

Luckily we quickly arrived at the

airport because the silence in our car

was deafening.

“Ahh man, I hate flying.” I said

anxiously as I walked towards the

gate.

“Don’t worry Kat, it’s a short flight.”

Kelsey assured with a smile.

“Yeah, I know but I feel uneasy as

usual. I’ve always felt weird about

flying.” I replied.

“You’ll be fine. You’re a big girl. Don’t

be a scaredy Kat.” Zack interrupted.

“Oh no, don’t start with the lame jokes

Zack.” Kelsey warned as she playfully

punched him.

My eyes scanned the airport gate as

we approached. The flight was a

special one so only agents were

scheduled on it. Strangely I didn’t

know any of them but then I had been

out of work for a bit.

“Agent Fontaine & team.” A man

called out.

“Agent Fontaine & team.” Zack

mocked in a deep mans voice.

I gave Zack a dirty look, raised my

hand and approached the man.

“Yes,” I replied.

“You can board. The plane is ready for

take off. We are only waiting for the

crew.” He stated.

We boarded the plane and prepared

for takeoff.

I glanced around. Zack sat near the

back which wasn’t normal but he

wasn’t normal.

Kelsey sat a few rows over. I saw her

turn on her Ipad then I saw a woman

approach her and tell her to turn it off

during take off. Kelsey looked over at

me and shrugged her shoulders.

“Hello Agents, I’m Captain Jackson.

We are expecting a smooth quick

flight. 1 hour flight time. No extreme

bad weather just a few raindrops on

the radar. So sit back and enjoy the

flight.” The voice said that came over

the intercom.

I couldn’t help but check out my

surroundings again. I don’t know if it

was my nerves but something kept

making me do it. There were 2 agents

to my left and 1 to my right. They

seemed preoccupied but then my mind

was in overload so I might have been

overreacting. As the plane took off, I

closed my eyes and took a deep

breath. I could picture the flight where

I met Michael and how he calmed me

down. I imagined his soft sweet voice

whispering in my ear.

“Ughhh. I still hate flying. Deep long

breath Katya. Deep long breaths.” I

whispered to myself.

Five minutes in, I was already

checking my watch for landing time. I

tried to keep my mind busy so I

wouldn’t freak out. The turbulence

wasn’t bad but I squeezed the armrest

at every little bump. I remembered

Michael holding my hand and smiling

as a calming tactic. As I came out of

my daydream my eyes caught Kelsey’s

Ipad screen. I could see she was

looking at a map. Quickly Kelsey

turned off her Ipad and came over to

me.

“Hey whats up?” I asked nervously.

“Kat, something is wrong.” She

whispered trying not to get attention.

“What do you mean?” I whispered.

She turned on her Ipad and pointed at

the screen.

“What are you showing me Kelsey?” I

asked.

“This is our plane flight route and this

is our plane.” She explained.

Our plane was going in a different

direction.

“What the hell? Are you sure that’s

us?” I replied.

She nodded yes and turned off her

IPad.

“Don’t react. Let me see what I can see

around us.” I whispered as I got up to

stretch and look around.

Zack was asleep in back and the other

agents were doing their own thing.

Nothing seems out of place.

“Kat, we’re down now. No service

what so ever on our phones.” Kelsey

whispered as she tugged on my jacket.

“Maybe we are going through a black

zone. Give it a minute.” I replied.

“Ok but I don’t think so. It’s so

strange.” Kelsey said concerned.

Zack’s phone suddenly rang with a no

service tone which immediately woke

him up. I heard him move but then I

heard a scuffle.

“Kat, I think we’re being skyjacked.”

Kelsey yelled.

Suddenly we were surrounded by men

and women with guns.

“What the hell is going on?” I said.

Suddenly over the intercom I heard a

very familiar voice.

“Hello Agent Fontaine and fellow

agents, please fasten your seat belts.

This flight is going on a slight detour.”

The voice said.

“Byun.” My mind immediately

thought.

“Can you take your gun out of my

face, it’s not like I can run away.” I

said to the man in front of me.

Suddenly Zack sees an opportunity

and runs towards the cockpit.

“I got this!” he yelled as he passed us.

“Don’t even think about it.” The agent

holding the gun to my face said.

There was nothing I could really do

because I was unarmed upon

boarding the flight.

As the scuffle in the cockpit became

more intense suddenly the plane

started to descend quickly.

My heart felt like I was going to

explode. I flew up out of my seat and

fell over onto the man holding me

hostage. We both slid down the aisle.

In my own scuffle, I didn’t notice what

everyone else were doing. All I heard

were screams. Then nothing. No

sounds at all.

At headquarters, Shrilehka received a

general distress signal on her laptop.

She quickly called Dianne.

“Dianne, something has gone wrong. I

just got a distress signal from Kelsey’s

Ipad.” She said in a worried tone.

“Can you track the plane?” Dianne

asked.

“Yeah, I’m on it.” Shirlekha said.

Shirlekha quickly typed to track the

plane. She gasped as she noticed her

tracking software remained blank. As

if the flight didn’t exist.

“Umm, it says tracking unavailable.

But the flight was there a few minutes

ago. I saw it.” Shirlekha explained.

“Track Kelsey’s Ipad or their phones.”

Dianne instructed.

“I tried tracking through her Ipad and

Katya’s cell too, and nothing. It’s as if

they have them turned off.” Shrilehka

replied.

“That’s impossible. How about Zack?”

Dianne asked.

“Ok? Weird thing happening, Zack’s

cell isn’t pinging at all. I’ve tried it

twice and same thing came up.” She

replied confused.

“What the hell is going on?” Dianne

whispered as she typed and watched

her screen flash with no plane info.

Shrilehka nodded as she tried to track

the plane again and again.

“Ughh still nothing. Come on.”

Shirlekha murmured.

“I’ll be right there.” Dianne said.

Shrilehka called the airport while still

trying to track the plane. They claim

to have no current info on the flight.

Dianne ran through the lobby into

intelligence headquarters.

“Anything new?” Dianne asked as she

entered Shirlekha’s office.

Shirlekha nodded as she continuously

typed.

“I called the airport. All they said was

that the plane was in the air for 15

minutes then disappeared off their

radar. They said they didn’t think

anything of it since it was a routine

flight and during storms they flash in

and out of radar. I explained to them

they needed to find this flight

immediately. Now I’m on standby

while they were working on tracking

the flights black box. At this point,

there is no malfunction or outage of

their equipment.” Shrilehka reported.

“What the hell? This is insane! That

plane could not have disappeared into

thin air.” Dianne said upset.

Dianne paced back and forth.

“Everyone on that flight was

authorized for this case. I don’t get it.”

Dianne said concerned looking

through the file.

“Unless someone snuck in.” Shrilehka

added.

“That would be impossible. Security is

super tight on these missions. Plus no

one but the agents knew about this

flight.” Dianne said as she dialed the

private airlines emergency number.

She paced back and forth fiercely.

“Come on, you have to have some kind

of info on that plane. How can you tell

me you have nothing when it left from

the airport less than 20 minutes ago.

It was supposed to be a secure flight.

Who do you have on the flight list?”

Dianne said frustrated.

Dianne remained quiet as the person

on the phone explained.

“According to our gate attendant the

flight crew was 6 instead of 5. They

had an extra unlisted pilot for that

flight. Then all the agents.” The lady

said.

“Extra pilot? For a 1 hour flight? That

would be your first clue something

wasn’t right. No one else was cleared

for that flight, not even last minute.

Do you have a name on who the extra

pilot was?” Dianne asked.

“No, we figured he was cleared since

he boarded the flight with the crew so

we didn’t check his I.D.” The lady

added.

Dianne hit her desk.

“Are you serious? This flight was not a

regular flight like you all assume. This

flight was an assigned mission

secured flight.” Dianne explained.

“I understand. I apologize for this

inconvenience.” The lady replied

nervous.

“Inconvenience? A missing plane is

not an inconvenience.” Dianne yelled.

The lady remained quiet. Dianne took

a deep breath.

“Ok. So what happens now? How do I

know where my agents are?” Dianne

asked furiously.

“I have contacted our supervisor. He

is looking into the matter as we speak.

All we could do is wait for his

findings.” The lady replied.

“Wait?! We have to wait? For his

findings? Our agents were on that

flight! And that flight is missing, what

are we waiting for? You are kidding

me right?” Dianne yelled into the

phone.

She hung up frustrated.

“What they say?” Shirlekha asked

nervously.

“Nothing. Nothing at all.” Dianne

said.

“What do we do now?” Shirlekha

asked.

“Wait. That’s what they said to do.

Just wait.” Dianne said upset.

RECOVERY

As I came to, all I could see was

darkness. I could smell burnt fuel. I

slowly sat up in high grass.

“Did our plane crash?” I asked myself

as I cleared my eyes and looked

around.

I could see I was outside the plane.

How did I get there? I have no idea. By

the plane, I saw a small flames and

little debris. I could hear voices in the

distance. I stayed low so I couldn’t be

seen.

Suddenly I heard a whisper nearby.

“Katya? Katya? Where are you?”

Kelsey whispered.

“Kelsey. Oh my goodness, are you

ok?” I said reaching out for her.

“Yeah just a bit banged up but I’m

good. What the hell happened?” She

replied.

“I have no idea. I think the plane

crashed. But I’m not sure. Can you see

anything?” I said looking through the

tall grass.

“I can’t see shit! Wait! Look over

there. I’m thinking those people have

something to do with it. They don’t

look hurt.” Kelsey said pointing at a

group of people in the distance.

“That’s Byun.” I thought.

We watched as they approached Zack.

Quietly we sat in the darkness.

“Where is she?” Byun yelled.

“Where’s who?” Zack replied dazed.

“Agent Fontaine.” Byun replied.

“How the hell would I know?” Zack

cried as the men roughed him up.

“You are useless. You have always

been useless.” Byun said as he walked

towards the car.

Suddenly we heard 2 gunshots. Kelsey

looked at me terrified. I motioned for

her to remain quiet and calm.

At that moment, Byun turned towards

where we were.

“Did you guys look through there? I

saw movement.” He asked the men as

he pointed in our direction.

I motioned to Kelsey to follow me. And

began moving slowly. As I looked back

at Kelsey, she nodded no.

“Are you kidding me? You have to

come with me.” I whispered as I

returned to her side.

“No! Go get help.” She whispered.

“Come on Kelsey. This is no time to be

messing around.” I asserted.

“Seriously. Go get help! I’ll be fine.”

Kelsey added as she pointed at her

bloody leg.

“Oh shit! You’re hurt. Why didn’t you

say anything? I can’t leave you.” I

whispered.

“It doesn’t matter. I’ll be fine, Trust

me. Just go!” Kelsey asserted.

I took a deep breath and began

moving slowly through the field. Soon

I couldn’t see Kelsey anymore but I

could hear the men moving through

the high grass.

“I found someone.” The man yelled at

Byun.

“Is it Fontaine?IS IT FONTAINE?”

Byun yelled.

“No it’s not Fontaine, it’s Bhang and

she’s badly injured.” The man replied.

“Bring her but keep searching. If

Agent Bhang was there then Agent

Fontaine should be nearby.” Byun

replied.

“Yes sir.” The man replied.

That’s all I heard when I was hit from

behind and blacked out.

Moments later, I woke up, feeling

dizzy and disoriented. I could hear

voices but they were in the distance.

I felt movement.

Rocking back and forth.

As if I were on a truck bed and the

voices were in the cab. My hands were

tied behind me. I didn’t move but I

shifted my head a bit so I could see

under my blindfold. I saw Kelsey’s

hands tied next to me. She moved her

fingers so I could see she alive.

Suddenly the truck came to an abrupt

stop.

“Bring them inside.” The man said.

A hand grabbed my arm and dragged

me off the truck then inside a building.

He pushed me against a wall. Then I

heard a door slam.

“Kelsey. Kelsey.” I whispered.

“Kat. I’m right here.” She replied.

I shook my head to slightly move the

blindfold.

“Come here so I can pull off your

blindfold.” I instructed.

Kelsey slowly moved towards me. I

removed her blindfold, then she

removed mine. Quickly we removed

the zip-ties holding our hands.

“Are you ok? Where the hell are we?”

Kelsey asked concerned.

“I’m good. Are you ok? Hows your

leg?” I asked.

“I have a huge gash by my knee.”

Kelsey replied.

I looked around the room and noticed

we were alone. I ripped my sleeve and

tied it tight around Kelsey’s leg to

minimize the bleeding.

“Where’s the hell is Zack?” I

questioned.

“I have no idea but if he’s part of this

I’m going to kick his ass.” Kelsey said.

“This is some bullshit.” I replied as I

tried to find a way out.

At headquarters everyone was

scrambling around trying to get some

info on the plane. Finally Dianne

received a call. And it wasn’t what she

expected. She quickly called everyone

into the conference room.

“Everyone! Quickly please.” She said

as she motioned towards the room.

As everyone entered she followed in

with a somber look on her face.

“I have news about Fontaine and her

team on this mornings assignment.”

She said as she looked down onto a

piece of paper.

Shirlekha looked nervous.

“We are getting conflicting reports:

one says the plane crashed and the

other says the plane emergency

landed in a remote area north.”

Dianne said with a deep breath.

“Survivors?” Shirlekha asked.

“At this point there are no reports on

that but they are just beginning to

search the area. All I have is that

plane seems to be intact.” Dianne said

nodding her head.

The room went silent.

“Our Response Operations Unit just

arrived there for agent recovery. I will

be hearing from them shortly. Please

stay in touch for further updates.”

Dianne explained.

The room was quiet. The other agents

looked concerned.

“Don’t worry everyone we will be

investigating this. It’s our team and

we will find them. Remember they

have trained well for any situation.”

Dianne continued.

At home, Michael was visiting with his

mom with our son when he heard a

breaking news report. He walked into

the living room and stopped in front of

the tv.

“What the..” He whispered.

Quickly he reached for his phone to

call Katya. Her phone went to

voicemail.

“There is no way that was her plane. I

just saw a her few hours ago. What

the hell happened?” He said to himself.

He then called Dianne. Her phone

went straight to voicemail also. He

quickly turned off the tv and returned

to the kitchen where his mom was.

“Mom, I have an emergency. Can you

watch the baby?” He asked anxiously.

“Yes, of course. But is everything ok,

Michael?” She replied.

“I hope so. I just have to check into

something. I’ll be back as soon as I

can.” Michael said as he rushed out

the door.

As Michael drove to headquarters he

kept calling both numbers without

answers. He had a bad feeling about

this but remained hopeful. Upon

arriving he rushed into the building

and straight to Dianne’s office.

“What is going on Dianne?” He said

interrupting her call.

She motioned to him to hold on a

second while she spoke. Michael paced

back and forth nervously. He then met

eyes with Shirlekha and quickly

walked over to her.

“Shirlekha, what is going on? Was

that Katya’s plane? Will someone tell

me something.” He asked nervously.

She looked at him with a terrified

look.

He knew the answer so he rushed back

to Dianne’s office.

“Michael, close the door behind you

please.” Dianne said.

She motioned for him to sit.

“Was that Katya’s plane?” He said in a

loud voice.

“Yes. But hold on.” Dianne replied in a

somber tone.

Michael quickly began breathing hard

and fast.

“Hold on? What the hell happened? I

should have made her stay home. Oh

my God!” Michael reasoned with

himself..

“Michael please relax.” Dianne said in

a loud tone.

Relax? Are you serious? My wife is

dead!” Michael yelled back.

“This wasn’t an accident. I know she’s

not dead. I know this for sure.” Dianne

stated.

“What the hell do you mean by that? It

looks like a freaken accident to me.”

Michael asked confused.

“The Response Unit is there and there

are no bodies. No casualties. Nothing.

The plane is down but the crash was

due to a rough landing. Parts of it are

burning but the fires were set

intentionally not because of the crash.

Its as if it landed hard enough to send

the distress signal of a crash to cover

it up. Possible hijacking.” Dianne

explained.

Michael was so confused by this.

“Hijacking? But Why? This really

makes no sense. Wasn’t this a private

flight for this assignment?” Michael

asked.

Dianne nodded her head in

agreement.

“It makes sense if you think about it.

Someone hijacked the plane and

kidnapped them. Kelsey sent a distress

signal but we received it after the so

called crash. Her Ipad was found

intentionally smashed. But her watch

is still showing a signal. They all know

in case of kidnapping to hide any

tracing equipment. So I feel she hid it

on herself so we can find them” She

added.

“I don’t get it. Who would do this? Its

kinda extreme don’t you think? A

plane crash, really? I thought this

assignment was confidential. She

didn’t even tell me anything about it.”

Michael whispered.

“I have no idea. It was Agents only

confidential. No one but me, the

agents and the flight crew knew. The

security on the plane didn’t even know

the assignment or the destination. I’m

thinking the extra pilot had something

to do with this.” Dianne replied.

“Extra pilot?” Michael asked.

“Yes, we are looking into this breach.”

Dianne explained.

“Are you sure they are alive though?”

Michael asked holding his hands to his

chest.

“I know they are. Kelsey’s watch is

active. So I can see her heartbeat and

Shirlekha is working on pinging her

exact location. Her watch is moving

north.” Dianne responded.

“Dianne, That means nothing. Anyone

can be wearing it. It’s a freaken

watch.” Michael asked with doubt.

“Kelsey is an excellent agent. I know

it’s still on her. We are running her

recorded vitals against the ones

happening at the moment. They match

her.” She assured.

“So what now? Do we follow her

watch’s location?” Michael

questioned.

“You aren’t following anything. I’m

going to get a professional team

together and we are going to get

them.” Dianne instructed.

“I want to be on the team Dianne. I

need to be on the team.” Michael

asserted.

“Absolutely not Michael, that’s

impossible. You are a civilian and

have no training in this. Plus Katya

would not allow it.” Dianne

countered.

“At this point Katya has no say. We

don’t even know if she’s even alive. Put

me on your team or I will go on my

own. I need to find her.” Michael said

getting up from the chair.

“Michael, come on. Leave it to the

professionals. Katya will not be ok

with me putting you in danger. I can’t

do it.” Dianne stated.

“Ok then the professionals can meet

me there. I’m not stopping them.”

Michael said.

“Michael, you can get yourself killed.

You can get Katya and her team

killed.” She added.

“Your team can get them killed too.

I’m going Dianne whether you like it

or not.” Michael replied sternly.

“Ok. ok. Wait a second. Do you have

gun training? Do you own a gun?”

Dianne asked.

“Does that really it matter right now.

Yes, of course I do. Katya insisted I get

one a while ago.” Michael replied.

“Ok then come on. I need to assemble

the team. But you will need to follow

the leaders directions ok? Its for your

own safety.” She instructed.

“Ok ok, fine. Let’s go. We are wasting

a lot of time here.” Michael ended.

Walking towards the conference

room, Michael received a text

message.

“You have 45 minutes to get to me or

Katya dies. I’ll be waiting for you at

the abandoned psych hospital. Come

alone.” It read.

Michael quickly shared the text with

Dianne.

“Who the hell is that?” Dianne asked.

“It has to be Byun. He’s the only

person who’d want to hurt her to get

to me.” Michael replied.

“Really? When was the last time you

heard from him?” Dianne responded.

“Its been years. I thought he had given

up on me already.” Michael added.

“If it’s him, the team is in extreme

danger.” Dianne said.

“Yes and now it’s really personal, he’s

got Katya. You need me on that team,

Dianne.” Michael added.

“Ok fine. I think have the perfect plan.

Lets go do this!” Dianne said as she

entered the room of agents and began

preparing for our recovery.

At the abandoned psych hospital, two

guards came into the room we were

being held.

“Stand Up.” A mans voice said sternly.

“She can’t, her leg is hurt.” I replied.

“No one asked you to speak. Get up!”

The man yelled.

I got up and helped Kelsey to get up.

“I see you took off your blindfolds and

cuffs. Good job!” He added.

I smirked at them.

“I told you they would have taken

them off. You owe me $20.” He joked

to the other guard.

The other guard laughed.

“Welcome.” the second guard added.

Now with the door open, I scanned the

hallway to see if I recognized where

we were because in our room the

window were too high up on the wall

and I couldn’t see out.

“Your host will soon arrive to see

you.” The man said as he walked

around us.

“Where’s Zack?” I asked.

“Who is Zack?” The second man asked.

The first man ignored me and smiled.

Kelsey looked over at me. I could tell

she was afraid. I need to find a way

out of here so I pretended to help

Kelsey so I can see out the door again.

As I looked towards the door Byun

appeared.

“Agent Fontaine. Agent Bhang.

Welcome. I wish it was under better

circumstances though. I’ve missed

you.” Byun said coming towards us.

“What do you want Byun?” I asked.

“You know what I want and I’m sure

he’ll be here soon to try to rescue you.”

Byun replied.

I looked at him concerned.

“Oh don’t worry I wont hurt you two.

As soon as Michael gets here, I’ll let

you go. But as for him, we’ll see how

everything goes. You know Michael

and I have pending business.” Byun

assured.

“Michael has no business with you.” I

replied in defense.

“You think?” Byun taunted.

He smiled and motioned to one of his

men.

“Get them chairs. I don’t want them to

think I’m not a gentlemen.” He

taunted.

He then looked at Kelsey.

“And someone please get her first aid.

Geez, haven’t I trained you all better

than this.” Byun said annoyed.

Byun’s phone suddenly rings. He

smiles and points it towards me.

“Look who it is?” He said excitedly

pointing his phone at me.

He answers it swiftly.

“Michael. Oh, you are on your way.

Wonderful! This isn’t a party so make

sure you come alone, ok.” Byun said in

a fake happy tone.

He looked over at me and smiles.

“Of course they’re alive. They are

perfectly fine. The business is between

us not them. I just borrowed Katya for

a minute. You know, to get your

attention.” Byun added.

He hung up and smiles.

“Make yourselves comfortable. It’s

going to be a bit.” He said as he

walked towards the door.

He then looked towards his men in

anger.

“And bring them some water and food.

They are probably hungry. Oh my

goodness, you men are slacking.”

Byun instructed his men as the door

closed behind him.

“I got to get out of here.” I said as I

looked around the room again.

“There’s no way out but through that

door.” Kelsey said.

“We can take them.” I said.

“We can but its risky, they have guns.”

Kelsey said concerned.

“I can’t just sit here and let him kill

Michael.” I said frustrated.

“I know. Let me think a minute.”

Kelsey replied with a deep breath.

Right then the door opened again. The

man put down two trays of food and 2

bottles of water.

“Here you go. In case you get hungry.

Make sure you drink water.” He said

sliding the trays towards us.

Abruptly his radio breaks our silence

and he became preoccupied by that.

“There is a security breach. Someone

has entered.

the facility. Everyone to your posts.”

His radio said.

The man grabbed at his radio and said

“I’m with the prisoners.”

“Leave them and get to your

designated location. Now!” The man

on the radio commanded.

The man quickly walked out. We

watched him in silence.

“Did you hear the door lock?” I

whispered.

Kelsey nodded yes.

“Its a digital lock, right?” Kelsey

replied.

“Can you?” I asked motioning to the

door.

“Hold on, let me get my watch from

my waist band.” Kelsey said.

“Your waist band?” I asked.

“Yeah. When the plane got hijacked I

shoved it in there so I can be located

by our team. You know, in case we

were dead.” Kelsey explained.

“Wow. Good idea.” I complimented.

I looked around the room as I planned

out our escape. Kelsey quietly worked

her magic.

I suddenly heard a slight click. I smile

at Kelsey then I walked towards the

door and turned the knob slowly.

“Oh shit! It freaken worked. You’re a

master.” I whispered.

Kelsey nodded yes.

“Ok, Lets go.” I commanded.

“No. They can catch the two of us. You

go get help then come back for me.

Plus our rescue team will find me. My

watch says they’re here already.”

Kelsey suggested.

“But If I don’t return quickly and they

come back they’ll kill you. Come on,

we’ll take it slow.” I said concerned as

I slightly pulled at her arm.

“Don’t worry about me. I can handle

it. Just go Kat. Michael might need

your help. GO!” Kelsey said.

I sat for a minute with my eyes closed

trying to create my strategy.

“GO KAT!” Kelsey said breaking me

out of my thoughts.

“Ok, I’ll be back for you. I promise.” I

said as I hugged her.

“I know.” Kelsey said with a smile.

I pulled the door open slowly. I took a

deep breath and poked out my head,

looking in both directions for

cameras. Walking out I noticed the

building was in such bad condition.

“I think I know where we are at. We

are at the abandoned psych hospital.”

I whispered to Kelsey.

“Oh man, I’ve seen this place on tv.

This place is so creepy.” Kelsey

replied.

“I’ll be back.” I reassured Kelsey.

I closed the door quietly and

proceeded down the hall.

As I turned the first corner I heard a

noise to my left so I hid in a broom

closet.

Mean while outside the building,

Dianne had dispatched the first rescue

team to enter through the north side

and was preparing with Michael and

the second team to infiltrate through

the south.

“Everyone has their orders. Follow

them to the T. This is a huge facility so

be careful at every turn. We have no

idea where Byun is and he’s

dangerous, so stay alert.” Dianne

instructed sternly.

“I hope this works.” Michael

whispered to himself as he looked for

reassurance from Dianne.

The team got into position and entered

through the south of the building

swiftly.

The building was mostly empty.

I wandered the hall with no problem.

Turning into another part of the

building, I heard voices in the distance

so I hid again. As they passed me they

spoke about Byun. I needed to find

him before he noticed I was gone

because he would surely kill Kelsey

and Michael.

I snuck down the hall into another

room. It looked like a make shift

locker room. I began opening the

lockers looking for any thing that

could help me. After 4 lockers I felt

helpless.

“Come on. Come on.” I whispered as I

opened doors.

At the fifth locker I was surprised to

find uniforms.

“Yes. That’s it baby.” I said as I pulled

a uniform out.

I quickly changed in to it.

“Its a bit snug but it does the trick.” I

mumbled.

Looking to my left I saw a hidden

cabinet.

“There has to be guns in there.” I said

to myself.

I began to search under it for a key

and found nothing. I stretched and

reached on top, sliding my fingers

across the cabinet top. To my surprise,

there it was.

A single key.

“Oh yeah baby.” I said in excitement.

I opened the cabinet to find a few

unloaded guns and bullets. I

immediately grabbed a gun and

loaded it, then I filled my pockets with

extra ammo.

“Ok now, where are you Byun?” I

asked myself as I made my way back

out into the empty hall.

Down the hall some of his men stood

by a desk. I watched from behind the

corner. As I stood there the heating

system turned on over me and I

became startled.

I looked up to see the ceiling was

unfinished. At that moment they

started coming my way so I scaled the

wall and climbed up into the open

rafters. In seconds they were passing

under me.

“Shit that was close.” I thought as I sat

still looking down at them.

As they passed, the last guard turned

and looked toward where I was

sitting. Luckily I had moved one of the

ceiling tiles over so I could hide better.

They all piled into an elevator going

down. I watched as the elevator went

2 floors down. I quickly got down and

ran towards the desk. I hope they had

left some clues that could help me.

Suddenly the elevator dings and the

doors open. I dropped down and

pushed myself under a back counter.

A guard gets out and walks towards

the desk. From where I was hiding I

could see his feet walk towards the

desk then away again. Abruptly he

stopped in his track and turned back

towards where I was. I held my breath

and grasped my gun.

“Jamison, where are you?” His radio

suddenly said.

“I’m on my way captain, I thought I

heard something in the east hallway.”

He replied while staring at the area

where I was.

“Get down here. We need you

Jamison.” The radio responded.

“10/4 Captain. On my way now.” He

ended and walked away quickly.

I slid out and sat against the counter

trying to catch my breath.

“What the hell is all this?” I asked as I

glanced around.

“How do I get to Byun?” I asked

myself as I noticed a map that was

affixed to the desk.

“Which one is your office?” I

whispered as I slid my finger across

the map.

“It has to be in the main building,

right?’ I asked myself looking down

the hall.

I began walking down the hall

following the direction the last man

went.

“I can’t take the elevator. It will take

me directly to those guards.” I

thought.

As I turned, there was a long dark

hallway. Lit up by only windows.

“This is scary movie material.” I said

as I slowly entered the hall.

I rushed towards them and stopped.

“This place is freaken terrifying.” I

whispered as I wiped away spider

webs.

I ducked then peeked out.

“Freaken frosted windows.” I

whispered.

I couldn’t see much. I could only see

bits and pieces through the cracks. I

suddenly saw Byun in between the

cracks of the windows of the office

across the building. He was talking

with someone.

“There you are you piece of shit!” I

whispered.

I inched up to try and see again. He

seemed to be in an argument with

someone and now he was pointing a

gun at the person.

“Who’s he arguing with? I whispered.

Then they shifted a little and for one

second I could see. I couldn’t believe

my eyes when I saw who it was. I

gasped in horror.

“There’s no way.” I thought.

I looked again but couldn’t get a view

through the cracks.

“I have to be hallucinating again.” I

said as I tried to see again.

I leaned against wall under the

window.

“That can’t be Michael. Please tell me

that’s not him.” I said to myself.

Right then I hear a huge bang.

“What the hell!” I whispered as I

covered my ears.

I looked up again and I could only see

Byun standing. He pointed his gun

down and shot again.

I fell down into a fetal position.

“Oh My God! He shot him. He shot

Michael!” I whispered as I tried to

regain my composure.

“Breathe… Breathe...” I said to myself

I began shaking uncontrollably.

My mind was shocked with what I had

just witnessed. He killed Michael in

cold blood.

“What do I do now? I need to get over

there right now.” My mind repeated.

In the distance I heard voices then

heavy footsteps. I rapidly jumped over

another counter and hid.

At the same moment, Zack and 2 men

enter the cell where we were being

held at to retrieve Katya and Kelsey.

“Where’s Fontaine?!” Zack yelled as he

looked around the cell.

“I don’t know. I was knocked out and I

just came to.” Kelsey said getting up

from the floor and rubbing her head.

“You? Knocked Out? That’s a freaken

lie. Katya would never hurt you.

Where is she?” Zack yelled.

Zack moved face to face with Kelsey.

“How did she get out!” Zack yelled as

he patted her down for weapons.

Kelsey shrugged her shoulders.

“Where’s your watch?” Zack yelled at

Kelsey’s face.

“I didn’t bring it.” Kelsey replied.

“You always wear it. I don’t think I

have ever seen you without it.” Zack

countered.

Kelsey turned her face away.

“That’s how she got out. I can’t believe

they didn’t take it from you. How

stupid!” Zack said angrily hitting the

door.

He then turned towards the men and

motioned for them to help Kelsey.

“Guess what? You are dead now,

Agent Bhang. Your buddy Agent

Fontaine just gave you a death

sentence.” Zack threatened.

Kelsey lunged at him.

“I knew you were part of this. You

piece of shit. You were never part of

our team.” Kelsey yelled as she

punched his face.

Quickly the two men held Kelsey back.

“Katya will get you back for all this

Zack, trust me.” Kelsey yelled as she

was lead away.

“Not if I get her first, Agent Bhang.”

He yelled condescendingly.

Zack quickly ran down the opposite

hallway looking for Katya.

“Where the hell are you, Katya?” He

yelled.

Turning a corner he pulled his gun.

“You are dead Katya! Might as well

give up.” Zack said as he opened a hall

closet.

He quickly ran and got on the

elevator.

“Byun is going to kill me when he

finds out Katya escaped.” He said to

himself.

I blindly made my way out the

hallway and into the connecting area

of both buildings. I looked around and

ran into the other entrance. It felt as if

I had been walking forever. So many

hallways. It was like a maze.

Entering the last hallway, I leaned

against the wall and prepared my

gun. As I walked, I saw and empty

room so I slid into it to regroup. I had

no idea where I was going so I had to

think. So I made no stupid mistakes.

The thought of Byun killing Michael

dominated my mind though.

Tears suddenly streamed down my

face. I wiped them as I peaked out to

make my descent down the hall.

“Where the hell are you?” I said again.

I could see two men were approaching

so I ducked into another room. This

room was terrifying. It had wall to

wall pictures of me and Michael with

out faces scratched off.

“What the hell is this?” I said as I

walked around the room looking at

the pics.

My heart was racing.

“He’s been watching us all along.” I

said as I opened a file cabinet full of

files with our whereabouts.

Suddenly I heard Byun’s voice

through the connecting wall.

“It took you guys long enough. Please

remove this piece of shit from my

office. I’m tired of looking at him.”

Byun commanded.

I supposed he was referring to

Michael’s body. I leaned against the

wall. I could see the men carrying out

a man’s body. My first instinct was to

run to him but I felt I had to avenge his

death. I controlled my breathing and

moved slowly to the doorway. I

peeked out and looked both ways.

I took two steps and grabbed the door

knob. With one swoop, I opened the

door to find Byun standing by the

window.

“Don’t freaken move.” I said.

He smiled and nodded his head.

“You are too late, Katya. Your bunny

just left here.” He said jokingly.

“I’m not here for Michael. I’m here for

you.” I said holding back my tears.

With not a care in the world, he

started pouring water into a cup.

“Would you like some tea?” He asked.

“I told you not to move.” I demanded.

“Katya, no one knows your here. So

who are you waiting for? If you are

going to shoot me, go for it.” Byun

said.

I pointed my gun at him. Finger on the

trigger. Ready to shoot.

“I just killed your husband. My secret

left with his last breath. Does that give

you incentive to end this now or am I

going to have to grab my gun and

shoot you first.” Byun added.

Suddenly the door flies open.

“Byun, Katya has escaped.” Zack said.

Standing behind the door I pointed my

gun at it. Byun looked towards me

then towards Zack as if he was giving

him a sign I was behind the door. I

quickly pulled the trigger. Zack hit the

floor.

“You just shot one of your own.” Byun

said.

“He’s never been one of mine. Now its

your turn.” I said as I approached

him.

He stood unaffected.

“Shoot already!” He yelled.

“Doesn’t the anticipation make you

crazy.” I taunted.

I was face to face with Byun.

“Get on the floor Byun!” I commanded.

He slowly began to kneel. I held the

gun to his head. And I click the trigger.

“You killed Michael.” I whispered.

He smiled like I was saying something

funny.

“Now I have to kill you.” I said as I

click the trigger again.

He jumped in terror.

“Dropped it Katya.” I suddenly heard

Zack say.

I could see through the glass reflection

that he had a gun pointing at me.

As I planned in my head what was

going to be my next move I heard a

loud pop. I felt warm liquid run down

my back.

Byun stood up, looked at me and

smiled.

“Now you can be with Michael.” He

said as he pushed me.

I instantaneously felt excruciating

pain and fell down. I couldn’t move. I

just watched as he walked towards the

door.

“Wait Byun! You can’t leave me here. I

brought you Fontaine. I killed her for

you. Help me.” I heard Zack say.

Byun stepped over me and stopped in

front of Zack.

“Yes Zack, thank a lot for that. I

appreciate your dedication but I can’t

leave any loose ends.” Byun said

condescendingly

“WHAT!” Zack replied.

He then pointed his gun at Zack.

“Come on Byun, I can be of great

help.” Zack begged.

Byun nodded then shot Zack twice.

As Byun ran down the hall. My vision

faded in and out. The pain was

horrible. I knew I was critically

injured by all the blood under me. I

shivered as I tried to move but I was

going nowhere.

“I’m sorry Michael. I let you down. I’ll

always love you Bunny.” I said as I

stared off.

At other side of the facility the team

found Kelsey.

“Did you guys find Fontaine.” Kelsey

said.

“Not yet Kelsey. This is a big facility.

But they are looking for her

diligently.” Shirlekha said.

“Also find Zack, he’s responsible for

this.” Kelsey commanded as she was

helped her onto a stretcher and taken

to an awaiting ambulance.

“Ok we are working on it Bhang, now

sit still so they can take your vitals.”

Another agent demanded.

“KATYA! KATYA!” Kelsey yelled.

“Please Kelsey relax. We will find her.

I’m going to go now to get her ok.”

Shirlekha promised.

I could hear Kelsey but she soon faded

out. While Kelsey was coming out the

facility. Michael approached her.

“Kelsey Oh my god! Are you ok?

Where’s Katya?” He asked.

“I don’t know but they are looking for

her.” Kelsey said as she was put into

the ambulance.

Michael watched as agent after agent

came out with men in hand cuffs but

still no Katya.

“Where is she? Come on Katya. Come

on baby.” He said to himself.

At that moment, a man bumped into

Michael. Michael turned to look right

into his eyes.

“Byun?” Michael whispered.

Byun looked at him Michael confused.

“I killed you.” Byun said with a laugh.

Michael reached out to grab him.

Immediately Byun pushed him and

started running.

“BYUN!” Michael yelled.

Michael pulled his gun and pointed it

but Byun was too far so he began

chasing him.

“STOP! STOP HIM!” Michael yelled as

he chased him.

Dianne quickly turned and followed

behind Michael.

“Go! Go! Follow him!” She yelled to

some agents for back up.

Suddenly her radio went off.

“We found her. We found Katya.”

Shirlekha said.

“10/4 agent.” Dianne replied.

She’s D.O.A. Boss.” Shirlekha

murmured.

“She’s what?” Dianne replied.

“She’s gone, boss. We found her body

and Zacks too.” Shirlekha confirmed.

Dianne stood frozen.

“We are coming out. Are you nearby

for I.D.?” Shirlekha asked Dianne.

“Yeah.” Dianne whispered somberly.

She stood staring at the front doors.

The feeling of dread filled her body. As

the first gurney came out, Dianne

wiped tears off her face. She moved

the blanket to see Zack.

“Yes. That’s Agent Zack Lee.” She said

quietly.

“How long before you bring out the

second body?” Dianne asked in a

trembling voice.

“About 10 minutes, we are securing

the area for CSI.” Shirlekha said.

“10/4 Agent.” Dianne mumbled.

In the distance, Dianne could heard

yelling. She ran up to the area to

investigate. Upon arriving, she could

see Michael and other agents pointing

guns at Byun. He stood there smiling

with his hands up.

“Michael lower your gun.” Dianne

said as agents approached Byun to

arrest him.

“Not until he tells me where Katya is.”

Michael replied.

“Put it down Michael.” Dianne said

grabbing the gun out of his hand.

Michael stared at Byun as he was led

passed him to a police car.

“She’s dead.” Byun whispered at

Michael as he passed.

Michael quickly turned to Dianne.

“Come on.” Dianne said somberly.

“Is she’s dead?” Michael asked

confused.

They slowly walked towards the door.

Right then the last gurney was coming

out. All agents stood still and watched

as it was pushed out.

“Boss?” Shirlekha said as walked

towards Dianne.

Dianne looked at Michael. Michael

looked away trying to hide his tears.

Dianne reached in and pulled out her

hand then looked over at Michael.

“That’s her. She never takes off her

weddings.” Michael said in between

tears.

Michael leaded over and hugged

Katyas body.

“I love you.” Michael whispered as he

kissed her hand.

Michael then looked at the police car

where Byun was sitting in.

“I’M GOING TO KILL HIM!” Michael

yelled as he ran towards the car.

Byun made fake crying faces to him

through the security of the car

window.

“Michael, no.” Dianne said pulling his

arm.

He looked at the ambulance holding

Katya then broke down.

“I’m so sorry, Michael.” Dianne

consoled.

“Oh my god! What do I do now?”

Michael cried.

“Take it easy Michael. We will help

you with this.” Shirlekha added as she

put her arm around him.

He sat in the car with tears streaming

down his face.

“I should have told her not to go back

to work. I wasn’t happy with that

decision..” Michael mumbled as

Dianne got into the driver seat.

“She would have done it anyways. You

know her.” Dianne countered.

Michael took a deep breath.

“I don’t even know what to do in a

case like this. In reality, I thought

she’d be burying me when we got old.”

Michael said wiping his tears.

“Do you want to say goodbye to her

privately?” Dianne asked.

Michael nodded no while holding his

face.

“I said goodbye already. I want to

remember her with her big smile not

like that.” Michael said in between

tears.

“Don’t worry then. If its ok with you,

we will handle all the arrangements.

You go rest and I’ll be in touch, ok.”

Dianne replied reaching out for his

hand in comfort.

“Oh my god, how about her parents?

How am I going to tell them this.”

Michael whispered.

“If you’d like, I can call them. Its no

problem.” Dianne offered.

“No that’s ok, thank you. It would be

best if I told them.” Michael replied.

“Anything you need I’m here for you .”

Dianne assured.

Dianne and Michael rode in silence.

She felt this was the longest drive of

her life. She had never lost an agent.

“I’m just a phone call away ok.”

Dianne told Michael.

He nodded and walked towards his

home. Upon entering he broke down.

He shattered the plates that were on

the table then hit the wall.

“Why? Why my Katya?” Michael

asked out loud as he entered their

bedroom.

“Oh Katya.” He said as he grabbing

their wedding picture.

He laid down on his bed clutching the

picture close to his heart.

“This is too surreal. I feel like you will

walk in the room any minute now.” He

added crying uncontrollably.

After Michael called her parents and

other family members he returned to

their room.

“I don’t know if I can do this Katya. I

feel like part of my soul is gone.” He

said out loud.

Day went by quickly.

Katya’s funeral is set for today.

Michael smiled as he fixed their son’s

tie.

“I will be strong for you.” Michael

whispered as he hugged their little

boy.

Suddenly the doorbell rings. Michael

opens the door to find Dianne and her

team there.

“Come in.” Michael said with a sad

smile.

“It’s time.” Dianne said in a somber

tone.

“Come here sweetheart.” Shirlekha

said picking up the little boy.

“Where’s Kelsey?” Michael asked.

“She’s in the car. She’s in a full leg

cast.” Dianne responded helping

Michael with his jacket.

As they arrived at the funeral home,

Michael remain sitting in the car.

“It’s ok Michael. We’ll go in and when

you are ready then you can join us.”

Dianne said.

Michael just stared at the funeral

home doors.

“If I go in there, it will make this

nightmare real.” Michael thought to

himself.

He sat in the car for a few minutes. He

took a deep breath and got out the car.

“I’m sorry.” The agent at the door

said.

Michael nodded and entered the

building. He stopped at an

announcement picture of Katya at the

entrance of the room.

“You’re so beautiful.” He whispered as

he ran his fingers across her picture

then walked in.

The service was beautiful. The room

was bright and filled with Katya’s

favorite flowers.

“Thank you Dianne.” Michael said as

he exited the funeral home.

“No problem Michael.” Dianne replied

as she handed him the baby.

“If you need a babysitter or anything,

give me a call ok. He’s so adorable.”

Shirlekha said with a smile.

“Thank you.” Michael responded with

a smile.

“Give me a few weeks and I will be

able to help too.” Kelsey added

pointing at her cast.

Michael nodded and smile.

“The team and I got a getaway gift for

you and the baby. Just let me know

when you want to go and I got you.”

Dianne said.

Kelsey and Shirlekha smiled. Michael

nodded and smiled.

“Give me a few days and I will

probably take you guys up on that

offer.” Michael said getting into the

car.

As he put the baby in the car seat, an

agent came out with Katya’s urn.

“She was the best.” The agent said.

“I know. Thank you.” Michael said

with a smile as he grabbed her urn.

He waved at everyone as the car left

the area. He stared at the urn

intensely.

“Come sit on my lap.” He whispered as

he pulled the urn close to him.

“I miss you so much baby.” Michael

said out loud.

Days turned into months and

normalcy was returning to Michael’s

life.

This morning felt different though.

Michael couldn’t help but think of

Katya. Her smile, her laugh, the way

she said his name. He had had days

like this but today it was so

overwhelming that he didn’t go to

work. As he passed Katya’s urn, he

came to a complete stop. Quickly he

reached for his phone.

“Hello Dianne?” He said.

“Hey Michael, how are you?” Dianne

replied.

“I’m good and I’m ready to go.”

Michael said with a lot of energy.

“Where would you like to go?” Dianne

asked with a giggle.

“I’m taking Katya home to Jeju Island.

We went there on our honeymoon and

she said she always wanted to live

there.” Michael explained.

“Ok Jeju Island it is. I will book your

trip and accommodations.” Dianne

said excitedly.

“Just flights, no accommodations.”

Michael corrected.

“Where are you going to stay?”

Dianne asked.

“I had bought a small home out there.

It was going to be a gift for Katya on

our anniversary.” Michael added.

“Oh wow I’m so sorry Michael. Katya

would have loved that.” Dianne said.

“I know but it’s ok. It is what it is. I’ll

make the best of it.” Michael replied in

a sad tone.

“Well, I’ll call you in a few with the

info, ok?” Dianne said cheerfully.

“Ok thanks.” Michael replied.

Right before they both hung up.

“Dianne?” Michael said.

“Yes?” Dianne responded.

“Thanks. I truly appreciate this.”

Michael ended.

“It’s what Katya would have wanted.

You will be happy again Michael. I

promise.” Dianne whispered.

He hung up then smiled at Katya’s

urn.

“We are going home baby.” He

whispered as he ran his hands across

her urn.

In a few days Michael and their son

arrived at where he thought would be

a wonderful resting place for Katya.

“I thought we would come here

together again. I remember how much

you loved Jeju, so my soul feels this is

where you should be. I’ll be nearby

though. I bought a house here and I

will raise our son here.” Michael spoke

to the urn with a smile.

As Michael walked along the beach to

find the perfect spot, he smiled upon

reaching an area with many colorful

rocks.

“What do you think about this place

Katya? It’s perfect here. You can see

your favorite flowers from here. Plus I

can always come here, sit and visit

with you.” He said out loud.

He sat their son down nearby while he

prepared the ashes.

“Omma?” Their son said.

“Yes buddy, we are setting Omma free

today.” Michael said.

“Omma! Omma!” Their son said again

as he stood up and pointed in the

opposite direction.

“No buddy, Omma is not here, she’s

gone honey.” Michael said as he

turned around to see what he was

pointing at.

Upon turning around, Michael stood

still.

His son grabbed his hand and pulled

to get his attention.

Michael looked at him and smiled.

Then looked up again, removing his

sunglasses to see better.

“Katya?” Michael whispered.

“Bunny...” The woman said.
