Chapter 46

Day Two

With nothing else to go on other than ‘Nomad’, Gandalph searched databases, systems and Companies House for any references or synonyms till at long last he found something that interested him.

Pilgrim was a haulage and transport affair linked to two others that were synonyms. Listed as senior transport and logistics manager was a man called Damon Spilbury. Nomad was Damon reversed.

He was almost in the canteen when Nicks called him. Back down the stairs, he pushed the door and leaned against the railing on the open landing.

“Sorry about that. I couldn’t talk before, I was with someone,” he said.

“No probs. Have you got anything for me?”

“Well, not a lot, to be truthful.” He was torn between his DCI’s last instructions and the desire to help Nicks. “I mean, I have got something but I still need to do some extra research on it if possible.” He could almost kick himself but maybe Nicks wouldn’t press him.

“Give me what you’ve got?”

“I should run it by the Boss first.”

“I’ve just spoken to him. He told me to call you,” Nicks lied.

Gandalph didn’t enjoy finding himself in the middle of someone else’s game. It was something he hadn’t thought about initially. Now he wished he had. He was on the spot, so took the easy option and mentioned Spilbury.

“Sounds good to me” Nicks replied. “I’ll give him a look.” The call cancelled.
