The Way Home

The fear weighed heavy on her shoulders,

Like an invisible burden crushing her down,

an inescapable reality.

For her just walking the streets brought dread,

Unknown terrors awaited her around every corner.

In the quiet of her house panic arose,

building, waiting for the inevitable.

Never would she be free from her torments,

Never would she know the ease of normality,

Only this heavy blight, this sense of despair.

When it all became too much,

she took the pills,

The pills she had been saving,

Knowing this day would come,

With her limits breached.

As life abandoned her, angels flocked to her side.

In a blinding light of love,

She was borne, delicately, on their wings,

To a place where only serenity was known.

She felt herself floating, on waves of tranquility.

Her eyes opened on her new world,

elation enveloped her.

The end had only been the beginning,

The start of a new life free of the weight,

She had only ever known.

Now her senses were flooded,

with love and joy.

With her suffering she had paid the price,

She had earned her place at the angel’s table.
