The Night of the Nativity
W
HO has been kind the whole year
through
To every living thing—
To man and beast, to the lonely ones,
And to all suffering—
Will find on the young Lord Jesus’ night
A blessed song to sing.
He can walk upright to a marching psalm,
And he will have journeyed far;
He will find a peace and a welcoming
Where small glad children are;
And his eyes will catch and hold the light
That comes from the Christ Child’s star.
Who has been kind the whole year through
Shall bear in his hands a light:
A candle of gladness to guide his feet
Through the beautiful holy night;
And peace will wrap him roundabout
Like a garment soft and white.
