of it!
Out of the hand of God, out of the earth it

Into the vats, and the unforgettable sight of it
Blinding the eyes with its white-hot molten flame.
Steel! And man with the knowledge, man with the
power
To build machines as keen as the human mind,
With the brawn to bring fulfillment in an hour
To a world that reaches its eager hands to find
Steel—more steel for its upward climbing build-
ings,
For its far-flung bridges anchoring shore to shore,
For its peacetime progress, and its peacetime
daring,
And steel—God’s pity, should we come o war.
What is man that God should be mindful of him?
Deep in the earth he hid his precious ore,
Then the need arose, and strong men turned to
grapple
