This may come as a shock to some of you, but my brother and I have been known to joke around from time to time. I know, I know…we’ve tried to hide it from you…but there comes a time for the truth to be told.
The Joy of Stupidity book cover I posted yesterday actually started in one of those sessions. I forget exactly how it happened…but the effect was to write a story as stupid as possible and submit it for publication. Which is why I created Herman and Melvin and submitted it. It got accepted right away…as did the follow-up story. 40,000 printed copies of those two adventures later, it seemed like being stupid was actually a smart plan.
If it can bring laughter and encouragement to people, I’ll continue to write stories about Herman and Melvin and their stupid pals.
With that said, being stupid is not always a smart plan.
People are getting shamed for going in for C-19 testing…which is not smart. People should be encouraged to be responsible and get tested both their own health and the health of others.
The odds are good that most people will beat this disease, why would we want to avoid treatment for it?
People are getting suspicious of neighbors and strangers…which is not smart either. If we let ourselves begin hating each other we have already lost the greater war.
Yes, there are people in the world who will use this as an opportunity for evil. However, that is no excuse to allow ourselves to become evil ourselves. Resist the dark side!
People are becoming willing to give up democracy for some measure of safety…but if we give up democracy for safety we end up with neither.
Let’s not allow a temporary situation to lead us into emotionally driven decisions that can have permanent consequences.
Stupidity, keep it entertainment.
Be smart people.
