Giving way to the mob of raging waves

grasping for power

only erodes the safety of the shore

where we long to be

Surrendering to the sloppy graffiti

in the rearview mirror

doesn’t create anything more civilized

then a mass of jetsam swirling in the sea

Burning alive in the fires of rage

the authoritarian terror

only leaves behind the ashes of violence

as the innocent flee

Looting from the helpless

doesn’t create a system of values

it only robs us of what we could be

Shouting down those who speak

the truth falling out of favor

doesn’t create a country of freedom

it only stops us all from living free

Exchanging one oppressor

for the whip of another

doesn’t get us any further…
