THE BEAUTIFUL ONES ARE TAKEN

The beautiful ones are taken

And yet the earth remains unshaken

The beautiful paths are mistaken

Yet no heart is broken

Shouldn’t the empire take on the shame?

That the fortress has no beauty of which to lay claim

Shouldn’t the emperor share in the blame?

That no mistress hangs on his wall of fame!

What is my fate searching an empty vault

When the beautiful ones are betrothed by default

Where indeed lies my fault

When there is no beauty found for me to flaunt.

Where is the path that leads to the past?

Maybe there I can make a recast

What is the part I must play at last?

To redeem the beauties I let downcast

When the entourage is back with the entire slot

Will my betrothed be among the lot?

Now at last that the beauties are brought

Where is my beautiful one?
