KINDS OF LOVE
Love when you’re young
is a sprig of wheat,
intertwined and growing
like a golden tree
that will bear fruit,
like sweet bread.
It is full of strolls
taken hand-in-hand,
and supple bodies
like ships well-stocked
with promises
and sighing souls.
Love in your forties
and fifties
is like a spark
in a dry forest.
A sexual fire that melts metal,
passionate to the point of suicide.
Love when you’re old
is between white gentlewomen
like the peaks of the cordillera,
the milk of wisdom,
scars from past loves,
promises of love till death do you part.
