THE STORM

Love’s storm,

with its hurricane winds,

flattens me against

the tree of life.

I am transformed from man

to insect.

I am a simple ant

with a sugarcane body.

Oh, God,

Where am I going?

You know

how much I love the sun.

On this dark night,

I feel my way along

with tears in my eyes,

with a knot in my throat.

My heart is worried,

my soul tortured

by bad memories

of an impossible love.

Oh, God, I am afraid of drowning and

ending up where the roots branch off

on humid and interminable roads

where eternal darkness rules.

Guide me, my Lord.

I want to go to the green kingdom of hope,

where the air, the light and the sun

live together with the trilling of the birds.
