FALL IN SQUAMISH

One fall day my love and I

drove down the Sea to Sky Highway,

making our way to Squamish,

in the heart of nature,

the land, the sea, the sky, the mountains,

hold each other like two lovers.

To one side,

the imposing mountains,

to the other, the sea with its bluish green,

and the dark brown land

preparing to sleep away

the long Canadian winter.

The trees that yesterday were dressed

in spring’s green

now wear different colours,

leaves of gold and fire red.

The foliage detaches itself

with nature’s tick-tack.

The leaves suspended in the day’s breeze

are transformed into

brightly coloured butterflies

that float down the currents

until they come to rest on the ground

and create fall’s magic mosaic.
