FLYING A KITE

On the beach a boy flies a kite.
It’s yellow and black and green.
It swoops and soars and darts aloft,
Its long tail a small boy’s dream.
It’s shaped like a ‘chute so it catches the wind,
And it fills out like a balloon,
The most eye-catching kite on the esplanade
Sailing above at noon.
In the clear blue sky among the clouds
It billows aloft in the breezes,
Higher and higher, bright tail swinging below,

It tugs and twists and teases.
