SCENE FROM MY BALCONY AT CALOUNDRA

Even the pool blows up in waves.
The sand churns in the surf.
The waves at sea dump on the beach,
And froth upon the turf.
Pandanus palms upon the reach
Are tossing in the gale.
Out on the deep a lone yacht sways
Beneath a full-wind sail.
The white caps near the esplanade
Are clogged with brown from sand.
The waves are tossing backward spray
As on the beach they pound.
Even at sea the water’s brown.
Above there hangs a somber sky,
And across my balcony

Scudding raindrops fly.
