Larisa Is Getting Married

For Larisa and Robert  Blake.

Here  it is, The Boulders, I told you so.

I hear it’s beautiful. Something like heaven,

but not so many  saints.

                                                                   Larisa?

I don't think you've met her.

She's warm.  Loving.

It's going  to be a good  marriage.

Bob? I like him. He always looks

like he just woke up. I think he'll improve

the family genes.

Make them a little weirder.

Desire?

Of course, desire. It's always there.

Think of us at thirty-five.

But something else, a kind of awe:

All those years of being  alone,

trying to somehow find your way,

and  then  one day,  you don't  know  why,

you look into a stranger's eyes

and  see there's someone  else inside,

who has the nicest, kindest eyes.
